Strength:
State Patrol has a large amount of trails. On a few of the trails like Fred n John's there are really high quality wooden features. Weakness:
State Patrol does get very dry sometimes and the berms become really sandy. 1 year ago there was a major fire that went all over the trails and burned down a couple wooden drops and berms. |

The area known as the "State Patrol Trails" is privately owned, but is not on property owned by the Owens, Blairs or Bowers. Their land is to the east and southeast. The SP trails are private nonetheless and everyone needs to get along. MX riders do occasionally ride the "State Patrol Trails", but primarily ride more on the private property east and south of Olympia Street. They are great guys and have kept the trails South and East of Olympia Street rideable and knock down the weeds. Also, when they occasionally ride the "State Patrol Trails", they help knock the sharp edges of the berms. Most of the area landowners have been gracious regarding access and most of the land is un-fenced and un-posted. That is unheard of in most of the country. All the land in the highlands south of Kennewick needs to be treated with respect, including that owned by Nowak, Blair, Goodman, Bowers, Bateman, Owens, Knutson, Schmelzer, Kennewick General Hospital, and a host of others. THANKS!

State patrol is primarily very tame and flowy single track. lots of small climbs and fast turny descents.
Customer Service Park at the southwest corner ("top" of trail system). Ride southern most trail to top of fred and johns trail head. go down fred and johns and session for a while. Then climb back up and hit up xcut (the next run over from fred and johns) This is a really fast and tight turning single track, little bit of climbing at the bottom. At some point (near the end of the trail) you will come to a double wide fire road type of trail. Take a right on it, then take your first right on the next single track. Take this back to the top (gonna be a decent climb). Then take left at the top and ride southern most trail till it ends and you see a sign for skate board. Skate board has a drop into a step up/double into two doubles into larger step up. Once done their head east till you get to another trail pointing south, then climb back up to the southern most trail again (heads east to west), then take a left on that and head to your last trail (farthest east), slime. Session slime for a while. This ride should occupy someone for atleast 1.5 to 2.5 hrs, depending on if your in good shape for the climbs. |

Trailhead: Turn east off Hwy 395 at the State Patrol sign. You can park at the barricade area just off the freeway. This puts you on a flat area overlooking the lower half of the trail area, so your final ride is downhill with a quick climb to the top.
Customer Service Head uphill: The first established trail N out of the flat area is Easy Way. It is a flat, steady climb without much view, but it's fast. At the edge of the slope off the flat area is a downhill singletrack heading N; this is the lower end of Big Tire. Big Tire is a relatively flat, steady climb with curves and scenery (if you like sagebrush and wildflowers), but yield to downhill traffic, because they are usually hauling.

These trails started off as just fun cross-country single track trails. In the past few years there has been a movement building in this area, new lines have appeared with jumps and drops. You can find these new lines on SkateBoard, Big Tire, and Stinky Finger... I hope everyone can appreciate the movement, it's the new mountain biking, going fast and getting air. As long as everyone rides responsibly and maintains the integrity of the trails and the property I think all riders can co-exist... Customer Service Big Tire, Skateboard, and Stinky Finger. I'm a local here and know the trail system well. These trails are good to ride Fall-Winter-Spring, in the Summer some areas do get sandy. Customer Service Usually do an out-and-back route.

I go there a few times a year for winter training while the trails around Spokane are still under a layer of snow. This is basically the gorge of a dry creek. There is a trail along the top of one rim of the gorge with many other trails shooting off of it and descending to the bottom. On the other side of the gorge, there is a housing development and there are some not-so-maintained routs straight down the wall of the gorge. I suggest staying on the side that doesn’t have the development. Customer Service Take the trail off to the right from the parking area. The trail winds around a bit. Stay on the single track, the double tracks are too torn up by ATVs and such to be much fun. The trail meets a paved road and goes along the side of it for a few hundred yards before turning left, passing the “no trespassing” sign that everyone ignores and going along the rim. Along the way there are a bunch of trails marked with artsy little wooden signs (Baja, bump n’ grind…ext). Pick a trail and have fun. Once you are at the bottom there is no easy way back up and you’ll probably have to walk parts of it (If you don’t, I’d like to know what tires you’re running) Rinse, lather, repeat... Similar Products Used: near the tri-cities... I don't know. In eastern Wa: Mt Spokane, Riverside state park,Beacon hill, south hill. |

We were headed on a 6 hr road trip for a day of riding. As we were leaving Kennewick on the HWY, the rig broke down. Crazy enough there were 2 guys on bikes in the feild next to the HWY. Thats how we found it. No trees, a few basketball sized rocks. Pretty cool. Dont bother in the summer unless you live there-very sandy. If you live up north, its not a bad drive for some dirt when the snow starts to fly. As good as Moab, not quite and Moab is not that great either. Customer Service Go ride. Not hard but fun in the winter when there is snow everywhere else. There is nothing challenging here but the trails roll fast and fun keeping it livly. The 'slick rock' trail that locals think is super hard, is not. Hard to tell that there are slight up and downs there since from the highway, it looks flat - like any desert. Similar Products Used: I doubt there are any other trails in the area except Finley, and the tallest treeless Mtn in the U.S. |
