Recently moved to Dayton from Virginia, where I was spoiled with the epic happenings of MORE, but this was a pleasant surprise. It was somewhat technical in that there were a lot of man-made bridges and a couple of super easy log overs. I'd like to see more difficult log overs, perhaps off to the right or left of the trail, giving the main traffic the clear way and the ride "around" the difficult aspect.

Very well maintained!

I'm from out of town and was working in the area. Found this trail here and was very pleased. It is super well maintained with lots of fun optional obstacles, drops, bridges, and even a wall ride. It is fast and playful. A little short, but I did two laps and felt fulfilled. Didn't expect this in Ohio. Nice job on this one!

Counter clockwise I recon.

Good trail if you are looking for a semi technical ride without any hard climbs. It flows very well and is VERY well maintained but please DO NOT RIDE AFTER IT RAINS. This trail drains very well but needs about 1-2 days after a heavy rain to dry out.
This trail offers a variety of challenges from log bridges, wood berms, tree rides, and many man made bridges.
I would rate this trail a 4 out of 5 for technical (only if you attempt all obstacles, 3 if you don't) and 3 out of 5 for cardio due to its lack of climbs. I would rate this trail a 4 out of 5 because of the close proximity to Columbus and because it is VERY well maintained. If you are in the area and don't want to travel north or south then this is the trail for you! ENJOY

I recommend riding this trail both forwards and backwards. Start at the parking lot off Africa (100 ft north of Cheshire) and head directly across the street.

Alum creek phase 1 is about 4 miles south of phase 2 on Africa rd and its more for beginner to intermediate riders. I also recommend Vultures Knob and Mohican if you are willing to travel about an hour north (71).

Never understood the "advanced" rating of this trail. Very easy and fast ride. Too smooth for my tastes. Only items of any technicality would be a couple of short narrow bridges.

I ride it because it is close to home and gives a good cardiovascular workout. Not sure I couldn't ride my carbon fiber road bike on here though.

Much better rides to be found at Mohican, Vulchers Knob, Wayne Natl, WV or MI.

Must believe those who rate this high have not ridden many other locations.

I was very impressed with this trail. I just moved to Ohio from Southern California, and I was afraid I'd never find a decent ride out here that could provide a challenge like what I'm used to. Ohio is FLAT compared to what I used to ride, but this trail offers a lot of ups and downs. The terrain is much more exciting than I expected. If it wasn't for the man-made stunts (drop-offs, log-overs, ladders, etc), this trail would be a very easy ride for novices/intermediates, but if you are more adventurous and experienced, you can make this ride fun by hitting all the obstacles. Several emergency exit trails make it easy to bail out early if you have an issue (such as a pinch-flat and a broken chain at the same time, like I had the first time I rode here). So far, this is the best trail I've ridden in Central Ohio, but I've yet to tackle Mohican or Chillicothe.

From the parking lot on the Western side of the road, cross the highway and look for the uphill entrance to the trail, with a sign marking it. The trail is a loop that comes out at the same spot, and you can only ride it counter-clockwise. It is single-track the whole way with dense tree cover for most of the ride.

Phase 1 is just down the road, but I haven't ridden it yet. It is shorter and supposedly easier. Mohican State Park offers a lot of good, long trails (a little more than an hour north), and the Chillicothe area (a little more than an hour south of Columbus) is supposed to be fun, too.

AWESOME! The description at the top is accurate though I did not ride Phase One so I can not comment on hills being more difficult. I drove up from TN to visit family in Huber Heights for Memorial Day and wanted to check Alum Creek out after hearing good things. Well worth the drive. Did a loop with a local showing me the route and had so much fun I decided to go for seconds. Probably would have done a third but like I said, I was supposed to be visiting family. The route doesn't have great flow but what it lacks in that department it makes up for with bridgework. I'm a big fan of wood work and the planner made good use. Plenty of log rides as well as a wall ride. Had a lot of fun. Trails were in great shape and well maintained. If you're within 1.5 hours, I definitely recommend checking it out. Not to mention the trails are located within a beautiful State Park so camping out for a night is also an option. Will surely ride Alum Creek again.

This is Phase I's big brother and is a nice little trail close enough to get to after work if you live in C-bus. It has been around for a few years now and is breaking in nicely. A couple nice man made stunts to keep you occupied; a long curvy bridge about 6-7 feet off the ground, a nascar banked turn and for the ultimate badass the horshoe made of 2x6's. No big climbs so no big downhills either, but still a speedy track when dry. Oh, and just like on Phase I, watch out for the redneck fishers and idiots walking their dogs on the trail.
