Bloody Shins - Trail, Winnemucca, Nevada

Bloody Shins - Trail, Winnemucca, Nevada

DESCRIPTION

A mix of double track and single track about 50/50. currently there are 2 loops: 7 miles and 12 miles. Both trails are marked with carsonite markers and are on Blm land. This is not The Flume trail, but if you are heading to Salt lake from the Bay area Winnemucca makes a good overnight stop (good Basque food)Take a couple of hours and ride the Bloody shins! IF THE LOCAL SINGLE TRACK IS REALLY A COW TRAIL...YOU MIGHT JUST ME IN WINNEMUCCA!

There's some really fun single track. I found it fast and flowy. Good idea to check with Chuck at the local bike shop to see what trails are in good condition.

Customer Service

This is a great trail system! I lived in Winnemucca for several years and helped in the construction of these trails. There are a number of approved singletracks in the system that will take you all over. Its convenient...you don't need to pack your bike up and travel for 45 minutes to ride a trail jam packed with other people (I also have lived in the Denver area for years...beautiful trails but too many pepople) Spend an afternoon there and you can find alot of trails to play on. Chuck at Bikes and More in Winnemucca can give you the lowdown on the trails.

I have rode them all. Pick one and have fun.

Rode the "intermediate" loop on June 4, 2005 -- trail is generally well-marked and easy to follow. However, it's sandy & deeply rutted in spots, and is carpeted in goatheads (not exaggerating). Luckily the goatheads were still fairly soft due to a wet winter; we only got 1 flat. Worst thing about the trail is that it's just plain not that fun -- boring climb, boring descent -- and you get whacked in the legs constantly by tall grasses & brush. Overall, it's just tedious, not fun.

A good ride! I started on pavement on Kluncy Canyon Road and had a good uphill ride on pavement and gravel road on Water Canyon road. Got onto the Blood Shins trail at the Water Canyon Kiosk. Easy access, nice trail marker and the entire Bloody Shins trail map was posted on the Kiosk. The trail is good single track and a blast to ride. Nice sand, minimal deep ruts, lots of sage. I Did not see another rider the entire time! Which is a plus. A fun downhill with minimal severe obstructions brought be back to the flat entry area on Kluncy Canyon Road. A Recommended ride for anyone. Very nice work by the folks that put the trail together and the BLM. Thanks for the hard work, it was a fun ride. I've ridden the trail on two seperate occassions and will ride it again!

Customer Service

From Kluncey Canyon headed West on pavement, went south up to Water Canyon then East and down the Bloody Shins to Kluncey Canyon.
