Trails are awesome. The uphills are a killer but as soon you reach the top is just amazing. Tons of turs, mix technical trails and you can get tons of speed. They are also jumps for the dowhill guys as a couple dowhill courses. You will not be dissapointed. Not recomended for the first time rider but it is a tons of fun.

First off let me say that unless you are a intermediate to advanced rider you have no business at Ft. Duffield. I can not stress this enough.

The trails are nicely marked with red, blue and green tree signs. Red being the XC loop, blue the rhythms, and green the slalom. There has been some serious work done here and the trails are maintained well. Whit the exception of some of the bigger creek jumps that haven't been hit in a while. There are trail maps at the parking lot that do an OK job for new riders.

Now a little back ground on myself, I am an intermediate XC rider who can clear the big loop at Cherokee in about 60 minutes give or take a minute and do two complete loops at Wavery fairly easily. Now when I say the up hill either way on the Red trail was BRUTAL, I mean it's a heck of a work out. Clock wise I had to "hike a bike" through quite a bit. Counter was a better up hill for me, but not as fun on the earned side. Either way is great cardio with some tech.

The green trail is not for XC bikes at all. I didn't even bother coming down it though it looked like a blast for those big travel guys. They said it was a ten to fifteen minute walk up and it was well worth it.

......The blue trail......nothing like it anywhere else around. I couldn't do much but what I did was AWESOME for a guy like me. I will go back for this alone.

Customer Service

Red loop counter clock wise for XC riders.
Blue loop for dirt jumpers.

I was just recently shown this group of trails only a couple weeks ago, what it did was prompt me to get a better bike, I was rocking an old Gt LTS 1 Which held up well, but duffield requires more travle if you really want to take advantage of the gnar. Since I was shown the trails I have ridden here almost exclusively It blows all other kentucky trails out of the water. It has western colorado feel to it, with great jump and rythm sections. I cannot wait until that work bell rings so I can get back out there, It also has great drainage so, the trails often dry out relatively quickly. If your lucky, and you hit the right sunday (which I belive is setup every other sunday) you can catch the shuttle to the top so You can get some exlusive downhill riding in. The hill is pretty small so the downhilling is pretty quick but very techy especially the jump lines and the creek gaps. I Love love love Ft Duffield and will continue to ride it as much as possible. The climbs are pretty easy and mellow, So you are'nt out there riding up hill all day long. Definetly worth the drive from downtown louisville. Definetly recommend to an intermediate to advanced rider, If you are a beginner Stick to cherokee and waverly as Ft. Duffield Is a bit more advanced.

Jus rode Duffeild yesterday for the 2nd time. This place is awesome! Theres something here for every kind of rider. They got a few nice DHs lots of jumps! The RED trails more for "beginers" but still challenging. the BLUE trail is the more advanced trail. The SLOLEM is short but pretty techincal. Nice rock Gardens through out the trails. Lots of work goin on here too, KYMBA is doin a great job keeping up with the trail system. Looks like some new additions just went in but then again i just started riden here. They have maps there but its pretty plain. Better than nothin tho. If you live in the area and havent rode here you gotta go! its worth a drive too!

Customer Service

blue, slolem and the dh. jumps on the dh, the north east corner has a few small ones and a gnarly section i saw on a ride by but way outta my league.

First off, I would like to give thanks to Bruce for maintaining the trail systems at Ft. Duffield. I would also like to give thanks to Goeff and his boys for building and maintaining some jumps on the back side of the park. I've been riding "the Duff" for a few years now, and you can usually find me out there on the weekends. By far, this is the best MTB park in the Louisville area. Ft. Duffield offers something for every style of rider- downhill, freeriding, and cross-country riding.

Customer Service

From the parking lot, there are three options to choose from to get to the top. You can take the trail that connects directly to the parking lot, ride up the road, or take the red trail to the top. Whatever you choose, your ride down will be fun. For any newcomers to Ft. Duffield, I recommend you ride up using the trail that connects directly to the parking lot. This will prove to be the easier route to reach the top.

Stopped here in early Sept. for a ride based on the reviews on this site. I travel quite a bit and ride a lot of first time trails and wish I could go back. This one however... is not one of those. The trail system itself is really well done with all the trails having brush trimmed back and generally very well maintained. The combination of climbs and downhill/freeride'ish runs are my ideal ride.
The park has a strange, "desserted" vibe to it looking like it's kept up but with very little riding done. I wasn't more than 100 ft. into the woods when I took a box spider & web accross the face... yuk! I ultimately went through about 20-25 full-on spider webs complete with spider in the middle during an hour+ of riding... does anyone ever ride these trails? I didn't seem so. When I had finally had it with the "spider ride" I stopped at the top of one of the downhill trails and looked down to my left and there was the biggest, (I mean 3"-4" accross) spiders I,ve ever seen in the woods, (see Dolomedes tenebrosus) hanging out on the base of a tree with a big ol' egg sak. They could shoot "Aracnaphobia" at this place.
These trails are really fun and challenging but they need more riders to overcome the riding in a horror movie feel to this place.

Customer Service

All fun stuff! Just take your anti-venom shot before you go...yuk, yuk.

I road this trail for the first time yesterday and it was excellent! I didn't ride the entire trail system since I was mostly interested in trying out the DH run so i just made a nice loop by riding the red trail to the top and blasting down the DH trail. I repeated this 5 times.
The red trail is excellent. Not too difficult but with some nice techy stuff thrown in. The DH trail is killer. I've been looking for this sort of stuff for a long time and wish I had made the drive to ft. duffield a long time ago. The trail is smooth and flowy with a few banked corners. The jumps are really well built and pretty massive. If you want to learn some free-riding this is the place to do it in KY! I think a 5in travel bike would be best for ups and downs but my 6incher was greatly appreciated on the DH. If you plan on hitting the big jumps I would recommend a full face helmet but then again I don't like hitting jumps without full face protection after a pretty harsh spill I took in the alps this past summer.

red route left from the parking lot up to the top. Around the fort at the top and down the DH course. Wash, rinse, repeat.

This trail has the best offerings for DH or Freeride of anything within a couple hrs of Cincinnati. Much work has been done (and continues to be done) to the DH trail. Corners have recently been bermed up. The step-down has been tweeked nicely, doubles, jumps and tables have been added too. The DH trail flows much better than last year. If you are within a couple hrs of this trail I highly recommend the drive. The yellow DH trail will not disappoint. There are also xc trails which I have heard are good, but having never riden them I will leave it up to someone else to comment.

Customer Service

From the parking area, take the road up to the top and proceed across the fort preservation to the start of the yellow trail. Ride the yellow trail and repeat as needed.

RED Trail is definitly the starting point if it's your first time there. It's about 5 miles in length and a very fun single track that has good elevation change and views. Bring plenty of fluid to drink on this trail you'll need it. Blue starts off and you'll think your trying to commit suicide. It starts off with a steep uphill switch back that will have your legs burning like fire within 3 minutes of riding. Probably about 3 miles in length and technical 70% of the trail. The Downhill is just that. A downhill trail that is not for beginners. You can cruise down it but becareful to not blow thru it or you'll break your body and bike in half. There are some small jumps that can be done on a hardtail. Slalom is a fun but fast and twitchy trail that can get even the expereinced hurt. Long way to get to the top and a very fast ans short ride to the bottom.
