Strength:

Rode in Aug 2016. New trails including some awesome flow trails had just been added. Trails in excellent condition at that time. We found some gradual climbs up then the amazing flow trails down. Big ups and downs for the flow. I think we only saw one or two bikes near the lodge; otherwise the trails were all ours. We didn't stay at the lodge (i.e. in their yurts) and only bought some beer, snacks and clothes, but they were really nice and helpful, pointing out the trails that would work best for us. Hopefully the trails are stil as great as they were in 2016!

Weakness:

We didn't know the best way to get to the flow trails initially.

Mix of single track and seldom used fire road. The trail starts with a progressively steep climb with lots of loose rock. The rest of the trail is mostly up and down as it winds through the moutain behind the Galena Lodge. The first half of the trail is the most fun and challenging because of the narrow single track and loose rock. I was pretty gassed after the ride - for a weekend warrior at sea level, the early climbs tired me out.

Great place to stop for a ride and have lunch at the lodge - the food and beer taste great after a ride.

New trails and reroutes now in progress to make the ridding around here awesome. If you like mining history and a bit of exploring then head up to Galena and you'll have the trails all to yourself.

Weekend Warrior

Steep, churned, rocky and loose, hot, horseflies and horsesh!t. With so much great riding in the Ketchum area, why bother? They do have a restaurant and very helpful bike shop so do stop in for a tube and a burger on your way back from a great ride around Stanley or Ketchum.
