10 mile long trail that starts at the top of Pali and runs into 'Nalo. I mostly run on this trail, although it can be ridden. The middle 3-4 miles will be hike a bike torture with wet unridable rocks. Do not ride during the winter/rainy season as the trail can be extremely muddy and overgrown. The bottom section is pretty reasonable and there is a link up for other local 'nalo/Norfolk trails. First several miles have amazing views. Customer Service Start at the Pali overlook on the Kailua side and shuttle a car to the end in 'Nalo. Beware of car break-ins! Similar Products Used: Norfolk trails, Sunset Hills (North Shore Oahu) |

This trail is about 11 miles long and i walked my bike about 3-4 miles of it. That said this trail is amazing once you get past that point. I think it is well worth it. Also I have lived on island for a little more than 2 yours and this is one of the most beautiful rides/trail i have ever been on. Customer Service I always park at the Pali lookout and take the old Pali hwy down to the trail. The trail splits off right before it passes under the Pali. take the trail on the right Similar Products Used: At the end of this trail there is the ditch trail which is about another 4 miles. |

Pictures scenery, absolutely beautiful all the way, worth pushing 30% of the distance. In many places the trail gets so close to the cliff, that you better watch out. Vegetation could be hiding a steep drop down if you veer off. When I rode it the trail, it was way over grown, but someone was making an effort to clear it out. This could be an awesome trail if cleared of fallen trees and other debris. I would not recommend for biking it unless it's cleared, hiking is prefered. The view worth all the pushing. Customer Service Pali lookout. Similar Products Used: St.Louis and Mililani are must when in Oahu. I heard of Royal Summit but did not make it during my visit to my disappointment. I heard it's a great trail in Oahu |

Super fun trail with different sections for riders of all skill levels. I didn't take it from the Pali, I took it from the Waimanalo residential area. Climb is pretty tough but worth it. After the initial climb, you can take the ridge line trail, its kinda sketchy in some parts but the views are really nice. Or you can veer right and go down the river path just, be careful on the decent when wet, the river stones get pretty slippery. |

Rode this one based on the write-up in John Alford's book on Mountain Biking the Hawaiian Islands, and because it was the longest single track ride on Ohau. Parked at the first scenic turn-out after the Pali tunnels. The first mile is a bit... of walking. After that I was able to start cleaning _some_ of the left-handers (you'll see what I mean.) The shady left-handers are quite slick and rocky. If you're alone, I'd advise dismount for many of these. The ride wasn't necessarily "fun" for a first ride. After a few times you'd learn how to take certain obstacles, I s'pose.
Customer Service My route: Parked at the first scenic overlook after the tunnels (from the Honolulu side), rode the trail to the end, took hwy 72 to 61 south back to the car- 2:30, 15 miles by my computer. |

do not take this trail from the pali lookout unless you are really in to hiking your bike. rode it today and probably hiked 70% of the trail. all up hill, the downhill portion can't be riden because of rocks, roots, or hair pin turns on extremly slipperly rocks. i fell on one protion about 30ft. my buddy had to get a really long branch and pull me the rest of the way that i couldn't crawl. just take the trail end up until the dirt road ends and turn around and fly downhill. do it a couple of times if you want. the trail from the pali lookout is worthless. i promise there is nothing there worth seeing. it's a $#@!#!!!! i can't stress enough how much you will regret going that way. Customer Service Go to wiamanalo and turn on the residental street before the 7-11. take that down to the stop sign and make a right and the trail will be on the right. it will say maunawili deposition trail. take that dirt road until you get to the part where there is a fallen tree and turn around and fly down hill. for an alright trail go past the downed tree for about a mile, you'll know when you get to the part not worth riding. |

The trail started with a quick DH from Pali Lookout, as all the other posters stated, stay right when you hit forks in the trail. I made a rookie mistake and landed on a rock about 15 min into our 4 1/2 hr ride, the bruise is healing nicely :0), this helped me ride more cautious the rest of the day. There are drop-offs at most of the hair pin corners, and some areas where mtn wall is on your right and drop-off immediatly left of the trail. The views were worth it, all the way down we were greeted with postcard like view, took about 40ish pics on the way down. Both of my legs cramped during the ride, and my heart was racing for a lot of the climbing, great work out. |

comming from east coast mainland with lots of technical and super trick trails, the maunawili is entry level to me. there are places where you hafta walk the bike (some stream crossing), unless you're hans ray. i live in waimanalo so i start the trail from the bottom and work my way up to the pali hairpin turn (approx. 10 mi). it usually takes me 2.5 hours including the ride home from the pali back to waimanalo on the road. it's a fast trail, but don't get over confident; there are some straight drops to your side in some areas. i once ended up with my bike hanging from my clipless pedals with my left elbow on the trail keeping me from falling off the edge (ride with a friend or bring a cell). i just moved to hawaii recently so i havent experienced many trails here, thus i can't compair trails except from maryland and west virginia. i still give it a 5 for fun factor. Customer Service just ride until youre tired |

This trail simply kicks ass. I just got back from doing a sick run this morning and it was great! It gets muddy in some sections, but it's okay. My friends and I always take an alternate route that cuts the time it takes to do this trail. Watch out for hikers on the weekend, and there is a sign at the bottom saying that no bikes are allowed, but up at the top there isn't such a sign, so you can plead innocence. An extreme cross-country/downhill run for sure. Customer Service From Honolulu, take the Pali lookout exit and park one car there. You'll want to park another car at the Manuwili Falls trailhead (the bottome). At the Pali Lookout, head to your right and go down the old Pali Hwy. This will drop you onto the Manuwili trail. After a mile or two, there is a trail heading down to your right with a sign saying "Manuwili Demonstration Trail" or something to that effect. Haul ass down that trail for the best downhill of your life. It's quite technical so don't bring your girlfriend. Lots of steps, watch out for hikers heading up (especially on a weekend). You'll hit some flatter stuff eventually, and this part kinda sucks since you have to cross a river 3 times and it gets muddy and not very ridable because of rocks. But it is worth it! Ride out onto the main road, follow it down the hill and that'll put you back on the Pali Hwy. Ride up or take your car. Have fun! |

This trail is another must ride simply for the scenery. You get 10 miles of lush tropical valleys scented with aromatic flowers and the singing of thousands of birds. Sit and listen at about the 7 mile mark in the valley of a thousand palms (my name) and you will hear the birds. This single track winds its way in and out of mountain ravines for the first 6 -7 miles. The going is up and down with a stream crossing or two. Don't do this trail during or after a rain as it is not friendly when wet. Puddles abound and the numerous descents will test any rim brake. The last third of the ride is fast and furious, starting in the single track and ending with a fast twisty fireroad blast to the end of the trail. This part makes up for all the hard work you put in getting there. The end of the trail is in Waianalo. To get there just follow the Pali Highway road down the hill past the drop off point. At the third traffic signal, turn right on to Kalanianaole Highway. Proceed on the main road until you pass the golf course on your left after about two or three miles. After you round the curve to the left, look for Kumuhao Street on the right. Turn right and proceed until you have to turn right. The trail end is a few blocks up the road on the right. There's parking on the side of the road. I would not recommend leaving valuables in the car if you choose to park it there. Customer Service Start at the northern end near the tunnels. Stay on the main trail. Have a ride waiting for you at the end in Waimanalo. Similar Products Used: Makapuu Lighthouse Trail. Paved road trail most of the way to a spectacular scenic point complete with old fashioned lighthouse and secret trail to the sea. |
