I try to hit this trail at least once a week as it is soo close to my work place! I love this trail The length is short but every time I'm done I leave with a Sweaty Shirt and a smile on my face! The top loop is my favorite (as long as its kinda dry) the roots get real slipprey!!! every once and a while you hear somthing in the bushes and its usually a wild pig! Kinda cool! I spend a little time each time I ride to clear some of the fallen twigs and branches (Durailler twisters) Customer Service Hit the top loop first (clockwise) then take the bottom loop twards the drainage ditch then veer to the right and hit the access road and bomb the downhill gravel gift that is there and head back twards the dorms! Many riders may scoff when they hear that the UH trail is so short, (1-2km long), but what kept me riding this trail daily for years is the fact that there are just so many different lines to choose. The trail is littered roots, rocks, off camber sections, steep climbs and sharp decents. You could ride this trail a hundred times and then discover a new line which would make it all seem new again.
Customer Service Clockwise, Counterclockwise, both are fun and have their advantages. Be sure to check out the new section cut through the middle by Nate, one of the best riders and visionaries out there! (P.S: He'll be the guy that passes you) Similar Products Used: Kulani Trails

See my initial description above. Customer Service Clockwise is much faster than counter, but both are very fun. The entire trail is about 1km and my best time is just over 4 minutes. I have a friend that made a few sub 4 minute laps on this trail but anything under 6 minutes is still considered quite an achievement. Use the inner loop if you are a beginner, (you will still get quite a workout and learn some technical skills) but if you consider yourself a moderate to advanced rider, go all the way and attempt to do the extended area without any dabs. That alone has kept me going for 3 years and over 1000 laps on this trail. Similar Products Used: Kulani Trail system. Talk to Chris at the Hilo Bike Hub for more information on Friday 4:00 rides. |
