This trail rocks!!! It is great because it has varied terrain, rocks, drops, singletrack, a few stream crossings, great technical single track climbs, and did I mention it is rocky. You can literally ride all day long on different Trails. I ride with guys who are on hard tails, but having had back problems in the past, only FS for me. Another thing, case is not muddy at all, ( I am comparing it to Mass. Northampton area, where ther is a lot of mud in the woods), case seems to drain real well, and stays real dry all through the year, with an occassional spot of mud here and there.
I personally would not advise beginners to try many of these trails, maybe the power lines, but I have seen cheap mtn bikes come apart on these trails. Some trails are not for the faint of heart, or beginners.

I think it is a great place, my favorite.

This isn't a "trail" review. How can anyone call Case a "trail"? It's a maze of trails of varying difficulty and length. I've lived about five miles from Case for a year now, and I've ridden and hiked there three or four times a week. Without a doubt, Case is the best place in CT.

From Line St parking up to the Carriage road, over to the Shenipsit and down to the high bridge. From there you have a choice of either going up fern or crossing the low bridge and making a shorter loop.

this trail is awesome!, i rode it after going to see a uconn game. stayed overnight and called pigiron cycles (great shop!!)for advice on the local trails. they recommended this one. ive rode westwoods and pisgah, also dupont national forest in NC. this trail ranks with them. plenty of technical singletrack, which i love. the climbs are not like those in NC in lenght but some are very technical which will only make you a better rider. i must mention the trails were snow covered when i went so i did plenty of hiking also.

This is a confirmation of most of the other reviews (below). Case Mountain has a wide variety of terrain, anything from lung-busting climbs on fire roads to white-knuckle DH to mossy rock gardens. The trails are pretty well maintained, I often find water bars and small limbs outside off-camber corners. I'd say there's 10-20 miles of riding, spread over miles of mountainous terrain, and it's unlikely you'll ride the same stuff twice -- unless you want to. The trail markings are pretty good, but it is easy to get turned around a bit [I personally think this is a good thing], so look for maps and plan before you ride if you're on a schedule. Note on Ratings: Aerobic/Technical Difficulty I rated in the middle because the terrain at Case Mtn is so varied that you can find nasty climbs and break your frame on drops but there is a lot of rolling singletrack and plenty of variety for all. I rode Case Mtn on a hard-tail for years without suffering too much, and I pound it on a FS rig now. FYI: I disagree with one reviewer (2001) who whined about crowding. I ride there Sept-Apr and rarely see anybody. Further, I spent 4 hours on Case Mtn in the mist/rain the other day and saw not one other soul. Maybe if you ride midday on the weekend during peak season you'll run into other riders but it's not like you have to wait in a line. One would think that in Southern New England you should factor in population density...

Really nice single track riding. Pretty challenging, extensive rock gardens, some very steep climbs and drop-offs. not an area for beginners.

Actually, I'm looking for a recommended route. Rode once in area just around the summit of case mt. The second time rode the blue trail through to Gay City SP (a great ride), and rode back on the road. I'd like to know of any extended loops where you could ride out on the blue-blazed trail and back on something else, without doubling back and without extended sections on asphalt.

We rode this trail last Sunday and it was a blast! The climb in the beginning is extensive but the singletrack was awesome! Really loved the rock gardens. The only trails that are comparable are Middlesex and Nepaug. This was more enjoyable because of the variety of terrain.

I rode up from some road--rode up a paved path which turned into a rocky double track. Took a right on to some trail. It was great! Nice singletrak! Wiah it was longer! This trail lasted maybe a mile, and then came into a four way intersection. Taking a left back down the hill the trail made its way down the top of a ledge which was pretty technical and a sweet trail as well. Didnt ride much else of interest.
Did hike the loop at Gay City, which I am told connects with Case mountain. Not quite as nice as Case, but seems like a decent length loop if you hooked it all together?
Overall, Case seemed to be cool. Maybe someone can get in there and build a few more singletrak trails that are more continuous?

From Spring Street take a right onto the Pink Trail (nice moderately technical climb). You'll hit a fireroad (white), take a right on the fireroad then a right onto the blue trail (rock gardens, very technical). Follow the blue to the either the Blue or Blue/White trail. Blue/White is a longer climb technical climb to the power lines the Blue is a technical climb, just a little shorter. From the Power lines you can either take the Fern (not marked) trail on the right back down to the washed out bridge Take the Yellow to Yellow/Red back to Case Mountain. Another trail would be to continue down the power lines, then on the left you will see a trail that crosses the power lines. This is the Tinty trail (not marked). Tinty is a long technical down hill (very nice and can be very fast). At the end you will hit a fireroad, you can either take a right back to the washed out bridge (coop sawmill road) or a left, quick right will take you to a trail around the reserviour. Loop around the reseviour and then take a left (technical climb) to another fireroad, take a right. You can take the fireroad back to the washed out (actually you cross one bridge first then you get washed out bridge. The washed out bridge you can ride through on either side. There is also a trail from this fireroad to the left, Yellow which can take you back the yellow/red back to the lookout on Case Mountain. From the lookout you can take the pink, red or blue trails back to the Spring Street parking lot.
