UPDATE HORSES HAVE JACKED UP SOUTHERN TRAILS!!! I live five minutes from this park and have always enjoyed the southern trails. Unfortunately the park is allowing horses on the southern trails. The horseback riders have apparently been riding these trails when they are really mucky and these trails have 5" deep hoof marks throughout. These trails are NO LONGER IN GOOD RIDEABLE CONDITION. I will now have to drive further to find good trails but I can no longer recommend this park!!!!!

It's $7 for a daily pass, $70 for an annual pass. I think it's well worth it. It has tons of variety, rocks, smooth and fast stuff too. Not any big or steep climbs, mostly gradual stuff. I just did 19 miles and climbed 1,950', but it didn't feel like that much because it was so fun. The Bobcat trail is pretty loose with newly laid gravel, so watch for that.

Watch for oncoming bikers around corners as I ran into somebody, it's hard to stop with the loose gravel. Busiest on weekends.
This is the best built and laid-out trail in the Springs area. Well maintained too.

I've heard you can park at the Safeway 1.5 miles up the road and bike into the park for free.But you'd have to ride on a road where the speed limit is 50mph.

Rode this park for the first time last night. It just opened 6 years ago, I believe the Park Ranger told me, so it kinda flew under the radar. With most of the trails that I ride in Teller Co. and on the west and northwest side of COS under threat by the Waldo Cnyn fire, I needed a release, and started looking towards the south to Pueblo and Chyn. St Park. So glad I found this gem.

The trails are as well maintained as any I have ever been on. The layout is great, with lots of curves, small roller-coaster like stuff. The variety of the "difficulty" of all the trails makes it enjoyable for the novice to the more experienced rider. No huge drops, but it does contain light technical reminiscent of the rocky parts of Falcon Trail (on the south side near the creeks). The long runs and wider curves are wonderful if you like speed. These trails, or atleast parts, were most similar to Falcon or Rampart Res. here locally. I rode Zook Loop, Blackmere, Cougar's Shadow and Sundance until dark, as I didnt even get riding until almost 7pm. I was told that Blackmere, Cougar and Medicine Wheel were the most challenging, and found them very enjoyable with Sundance providing the long curves heading back down to the parking area. Well worth the $7 day pass, and really, really well maintained!

Only ridden once, but in spaeking with other riders and the Rangers, All routes provide enjoyment for all riders. Climbers tend to like the southern route taking Talon south, then coming up. I personally like shorter uphills, even if they are more intense (I am accustomed to riding the mountains in Teller Co.).

My route was Zook (W) to Blackmer (N) to Couger (S), to Blackmere (E), to Zook (E), to Sundance all the back around to the day use trail head. Lot -o- fun!

New trails in a new state park. Most of the trails are wide gravel paths, that said they all have nice flow. The corners are fun to drift and the rollers, fun to pump. Start with the tough stuff while you are fresh.

Excellent trail system. The views are pretty good, these trails flow very nicely, and easy access. Technical in spots, it kept me entertained. Some tight singletrack imbedded into the landscape, pretty cool stuff. I rode this on a warm december day, I immagine in the spring its awesome.
Park access is $6/day. If you are going to ride this one often, then get an annual pass.

You bet - great trails so far - this park is going to get bigger and bigger as they build trails into the newly aquired land up and over Cheyenne Mountain. Pick your poison - Medicine Wheel is technical, fun both up and down, Cougar's Shadow is an awesome single track, I think it is best counter-clockwise. Go out and explore, the $60 annual pass gets you in here plus Pueblo Res. and Mueller, worth the investment if you visit these parks often.

Fast and fun. I am telling you that parts of this trail system are roller coaster like. Whoever was in charge of building up this area did a great job in terms of flow. There are a few sections of lightly technical riding (I didn't get a chance to ride the upper part of the system *(Blackmere loop or Cougar's Shadow, etc) so I am not sure the extent and I wish the park system would offer up some information on each section of trail.

Just ride! Everything loops back around and it would take a lot to get lost. The park is new (2006) and is still a work in progress. Trail maps throughout but not trailhead markings.

Getting to the park:
Take I-25 to South Academy, head west on South Academy past Pikes Peak Community College, continue west to Highway 115, turn left (south) on 115 to the first stop light south of Academy (also the light for Fort Carson Gate 1), the park entrance is to the west. Go west and follow the road into the park. Look for state highways signs directing you to Cheyenne Mountain State Park
