Doris McCarthy - Trail, Scarborough, Ontario

Doris McCarthy - Trail, Scarborough, Ontario

DESCRIPTION

Starts off easy, if moving slowly you'll miss the fun in the trail. Lot's of rocks, be smart as to the path you choose, lot's of rocks, potholes, and tiny ditches. Like I said choose your path wisely one screw up and you'll be eating rocks and dirt and might even screw up enough to fall into the Bellamy River, which is beside the trail the whole time. RIDE FAST AND HAVE FUN!!!!!!

This is a great trail for just beginning to develp some technical skills and stamina. The first part of the trail is all downhill and is composed of rocks, sand, dirt, and even a few old bricks. As you go down that first hill, about halfway down you may see a path leading up the hill on your left hand side. Do not go up it, believe me. It leads to nowhere and is a pain in the ass to get up (you have to shoulder your bike) and getting back down is just as hard. When you do get to the bottom of the trail, turn left and push your bike (or ride if your strong enough) along the beach. Once you get across the beach you climb over and old log and there is a dirt path that winds around rocky piers. Follow the path until it comes to a place where it splits into two (one path leading up a hill, and the other to a dead end beach). Turn left and go up the hill. Along the hill it will be paved and the first path you come to will be on the left. You can either go up this one or the next one that comes up on the right. Both lead into parking lots that go out to a road. Turn left onto the road at the entrance to the parking lot (guildwood rd. or guildwood parkway i think). Then follow that road up the hill. At the top will be a couple large apartment buildings. When at the top, turn left onto Kingston rd. and follow it until you reach bellamy road south (It's just before Bermans gas and there is a school (Bliss Carman) and condos across the street. Then go down bellamy rd. south and your back at the trailhead.

This trail is alos known as Gates Gully. Bellamy Rd. south is in between the two major streets Markham and McCowan (all these streets run north to south). The easiest way to get there is to go along Kingstond Rd. and when you pass either Markham rd. or McCowan rd. you know you are getting close. Then look for Berman's gas and the street right there is bellamy rd. south. Turn right if you are going east and turn left if you are going west. Then follow the street until it starts to curve and on the right side you will see a couple of posts with wire linking them. That is where the trail starts.

rocky, bumpy, fast and fun without the use of much braking. pretty dangerous if ur not careful. dithces, rocks, and grooves plagues the path, but theres not much in terms of turning. u can continue the path on the beach. if u keep going east u will go very very far. if u think ur gonna crash, dont push urslef, ull probably get hurt. ride fast, have fun
