Manitou Split RPA Rear Shock

DESCRIPTION

Split shocks feature a high volume, piggyback air shock configuration coupled with our Platform Plus damping system. Platform Plus is a less sophisticated, less expensive, shim based damping alternative to SPV technology. Of note: though Split is a cost-sensitive product for Manitou, it features technology similar to our competitor's highest-end product.

Strength:

Super Plush. Feels soooo nice to ride.

Weakness:

Platform Plus damping doesn't seem that effective, i get loads of bobbing when standing up and peddling hard.

Feels way more controlled and effective than my stock Fox vanilla r coil. It just seems to let the bike eat up obstacles and it feels like I can land drop-offs as light as a feather. The coil shock just feels harsh in comparison. Platform damping doesn't seem to make much difference - i have it turned on max all the time. The rebound damping is fine - on max setting the shock refuses to extend at all it just stays compressed permanently. I know they're not on sale anymore but just thought I'd write this for anyone that comes across a 2nd hand one.

Strength:

Plush

Weakness:

Not progressive in the compression damping, Compression adjuster doesnt click (turns like a screw)

Good performer at slow to medium speeds, I had to do some extra tuning to get a little progression out of the shock. At slow to medium speeds it is very plush but as you go fast the shock will let you know its limitations. It is an inexpensive shock and is very good for cross country type riding. The air valve is tucked in out of the way and only looses a minimal amout of air when disconecting a shock pump. I could adjust the rebound on the fly and it had a clicker so you got a solid indicator when turning the knob. The compression adjuster on the other hand was like turning a screw. For the price a good performer, seems reliable to. My roco blew an oring right off the bat !

Strength:

SPV- smooth no pedal bob

Weakness:

none so far

so far i like the smoothness and feel of an air shock. was a little worried having an air rather than coil rear shock but seem to be holding up fine. It doesn't have that dead feel my old 2001 Fox RC shock had ( which didn't have propedal)
