Intense M1 2003 Full Suspension

DESCRIPTION

As impossible as it seems, this bike just keeps getting better.
In 2003, the almighty M-1 is being fitted with the new 5th Element suspension system or Romic Twin Tube system, a mind-blowing suspension set-up so completely radical it prompted a redesign of the M-1 monocoque just to accommodate it.
Consider, for a second, the significance of the world's most brilliantly engineered downhill racing bike bowing to a suspension system.
Incredible.
By combining the two in one bike design, Intense not only moved the benchmark ridiculously high, they inadvertently kicked the competition in the teeth on the way up.
-First fully adjustable downhill frame, head angle, bottom bracket, wheelbase, disc brake mounts, and suspension leverage ratios are adjustable.

ROCKS! fast, like butter on the drops and the gaps, so far no breakage except the replaceable deraileur hanger (a must)love all the custom settings for travel and geometry. corners really well and is very smooth

Weakness:

get a later model so you have the replaceable d hanger and disc brakes and this bike rocks. I have heard of swing arm issues but have had none and I break a lot of stuff; The seat post is at a crazy angle but I have not had issues, I am 6'1 ride a medium frame.

the later years of this frame are arguable the best DH frames ever built. AMAZING. Why aren;t they still making htis model?

Weakness:

Have not found one ...BUT the rear hanger from postings seem to be one

The bottom line to this posting is ...I have been looking for this bike since 1998 .I bought a cross country trek bike but my heart was on a Intense M-1 .Now 2009 i have found one ...FINALLY ....I got it from EBAY... Really i did CHEAP too ... with being a pro circut riders bike i got it with some good specs and i would say this bike for the year 2003 ish it is still one of the best rigs to ride..

The Bike is really fast and can handle really well.Very stable.

Weakness:

I have bent the cage of the Derailleur and ripped it out of the Derailleur hanger. I have also ripped the pedal out of the crank so I had to get some new ones. All of this happended in the first 3 months???

A mean bike for racing and for rough riding (very soft).
The seat is a pain in the ass because it keep rubing againtst the tyre when you do a jump or hit a hard bump.
It is a cool bike but you have to have money too keep it going.

You can get it in white.
White bikes are so much faster

Weakness:

Head angle goes a bit funny when fitted with a rigid fork

The suspension can be confusing when doing back-hops, but you get used to it. For comps I put a piece of wood where the shock is, to make it "more responsive" - killer. Don't use tyres bigger than 1.5", its just not done...

Strength:

-Excellent geomerty for intended use
-Superb suspension action
-Adjustability for varied terrain

Weakness:

-High maintenance, race specific frame
-Low BB means pedals get smacked often
-Monocoque frame is noisy

The Intense M1 is arguably the best DH race bike ever made and will be loved by experienced racers looking to win. It was not intended for freerding or just tooling around the mountain. The bottom bracket is low, which allows the bike to corner like it's on rails but also means the pedals get snagged easily when you try to pedal through rocky sections. The M1 also requires constant care with it's many pivot points. I would recommend the Intense M1 for riders who enjoy racing and don't mind tinkering with their bikes. If you're looking for a fun shuttle bike or freerider, look somewhere else.
