The 6-speed Shimano grip shifters worked nicely. The knobbie tires and alloy wheels have stood the test of time. Other than an (easily remedied) occasional chain derailment on the crankshaft, absolutely nothing ever went wrong with this bike. The downward slopping top tube makes it easier for little kids to get on and off. The shock on front fork takes the bumps off when riding over curbs, roots, etc.

I wish the seat post was longer so it could be raised more as rider grows.

It has a very solid feel, as nothing is cheap about this kid's bike. I purchased it new at a bike shop for my 7 year old at Christmas. It was his first venture away from a single speed with coaster brakes. He loved the ability to shift into higher gears to keep up with his older siblings. The wide knobbie tires keeps the rider feeling stable when off-road. All components are easily adjustable and respond well to the rider's input. The styling is very cool this Raleigh Rowdy definitely is a much, much better value than what you can get at Wal-Mart type stores.
