Strong nylon, no tears yet. Ok in comfort.
Bottom rubber soles started to tear away when I rode with my shoe unclipped. I could basically see the inner sole. Very generically made might I add. But its a decent shoe, the price is moderate, not a deal but something you'll need to invest in sooner or later if you want performance. It's UGLY. Red yellow black, what the hell was I thinking???
Buy it if you got a GREAT deal otherwise ditch em. They are ugly, I can't stand to look down sometimes when i'm in the public. Durability-wise they are decent. Except that one tac has fallen off and I returned to using no tacs. If you ever ride the Dip sea trail look out for it. They hurt if the velcro straps do not sit aligned. The outside material is great. If you have a red bike, some dough, and want a decent pair of shoes this is for you.

Extremely stiff sole, good fit (for me)
Soles peal of shoe, ugly color, spikes fall out.
The bottom line is that these shoes are great (for the first 3 months). I wore mine 6 days a week to train and during races the first season I had them. I love the stiffness, it's great for climbing. The spikes are helpful, until they fall out, midrace I might add. And the sole has a really agressive tread, until it falls off. I used these 2 summers ago, and loved them. Then last year the sole started to pull away from the upper of the shoe, and the sole began to peel off. I still like these shoes and use them to train, but never to race. I wouldn't reccomend buying them unless you can find them cheap. I don't think they sold well so it's easy to find them for 30 to 40 bucks. Otherwise, go buy something else.

stiff, efficient
poor fit, terrible sole and cleat
Good materials obviously went into the uppers, but I have broken all the cleats and the sole is coming apart. The shoes also run kind of narrow and long. This review is for last years model that was on sale everywhere for like $60. Oh, did I mention they're ugly as sin? I've best heard them described as Team Ronald McDonald. Answer shoes....never again.

These are my second pair of mtb shoes, and they are such an improvement, the soles are stiff, and they are easy to put on and take off. I used to have Shimano shoes, and they were not very stiff or as durable. The feel of the shoes are so nice...when riding my bike the pedalling seems so much more efficient and effortless. I love the colors, and I bought them in Vermont during the winter. I live in Europe, where these shoes aren't availible, so I am always getting attention for the awesome, exotic looking shoes. I am sure there might be some better shoes out there...but I can't get much better (maybe the top of the line Lake shoes, or the top of the line Shimano or Sidi).

I've had these shoes for six months after my other ones snapped after a month. They still have heaps of sole left and are as comfortable as they were when I first tried them on. They have a nice stiff sole. Bit expensive though

I bought 1996 shoes and have used them since April 1996. I use them with Shimano cleats and 747 pedals. I had no problem with them once I got zero-ed in with my cleats and pedals. However, in order to achieve a proper float and good release I had to remove some of the rubber tread near the pedal spindles on both shoes.Three good rides a week and a dozen epic rides last year didn't hurt them as much as my dog did last month. Oh well, Valentines day is coming up---Maybe I'll get lucky.

I just got my new '97 Accelerators and I love 'em. The soles are extremely stiff, providing true acceleration and excellent grip off the bike. They are a bit narrow in the front, squashing my toes, (maybe mine are too small) but overall a high performance solution with killer looks. Nice colors too ! I hope the new soles are going to last, as I've heard about durability with previous models. Until then, I'm shredding hardcore...

I have had a pair for about 8 monthes and love them. The only problem that I have had is that the sole wears quickly.

I bought the 95 version of these shoes had them 2 months before the soles started falling off. I returned them for another 95 pair which lasted 8 months until the strap keepers were ripping out and soles again falling off. I had these replaced for a new 96 pair which I've been riding for 6 months. The same strap keeper problem is occuring and the soles are slowly disappearing. Next shoes I get will be Sidi. Although Answer really stands behind these shoes the durability for me just isn't there yet.

Very comfortable. The laces under the straps combo is good. It is wider than italian-made shoes which makes 'em great for people with wide feet.
As for the color combination, i loved the Mango Yellow-Blue color.
You probably read it here, but I'll say it again -- delapidating soles. after two years of riding, my accelerators look like road bike shoes.
Could've been counted as one of the greatest mountain bike shoes of all time if it weren't for the soles. What a pity.
