    Looks good, smooth shifting.

    None yet.

This came on my wife's '05 Trek Navigator, and I've been much more impressed with it than the Shimano Alivio that came on my same model (I recently had it replaced with Deore LX). Anyway the SRAM 5.0 shifts smoothly & has only required the initial adjustment due to cable stretch. Our riding is mostly on paved roads and we don't put a lot of stress on the components; but for light duty it works great.I really don't see much difference functionally between it and my Deore LX.

    fails whith out any warning

This is to update a post of mine from a few months back. When I first got it and for a couple of months after it was a great product.Smooth shifting, light, looked good, and the set up was simple. Then whith out any warning it snaped.I wasn't jumping or shifting while going up steep inclines-just trying to upshift for more speed.Stay away from them. They will fail.

Ive gone through 2 in 4 months! the problem is that most of it is plastic! it way to fragil.....dont get...my first race it let me down snaped right off...i had to walk all the way. it doesnt shift smooth at all....going up hills it shifts by itself...the other reviews say its great but maybe the both i got sucked...my advice spend and extra 10-15 and get a LX it works so much better!

    Strength:

Has been pretty tough, good shifting for msrp.

    Weakness:

not the best shifting, no barrel adjuster

After 4 years of exteme abuse (including surviving a severe bash with a rock that sheared my hanger off!) this derailleur has served me beyond its intended use. It has shifted good enough for me and has stayed adjusted. I even redrilled the bottom out screw after it stripped out! Gotta love composite. It about time to retire it now, though. It barely has any shift left in it. Rest is peace my good friend. We had good times together.

    Don't know of any

    Weakness:

Shifts on it's own. Can't decide what gear it should be in. Twist shifters are hard to shift when hands are sweaty

The Canto is a $1,200 bike. Why Burley put such a cheap component group on this bike is a mystery to me. I don't need to wear cycling gloves on a recumbent, and when my hands sweat, the twist shifters become slippery and are almost impossible to shift. When you do twist the shifter, it's like Forest Gump's box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get. The rear derailleur has a mind of its own. It's almost impossible to adjust. I'm switching out to Shimano Deore. I have the XT on my tandem and it works flawlessly. This would probably be an ok group on a low end hybrid, but otherwise, I would avoid.

    cheap and dependable.

    Weakness:

    ugly.

i'm rectifying a previous bad review. having set the drailleur up properly this thing works great. i love technical XC riding and have found shifting with these easy and dependable. its not as smooth as the XTR on my other bike but it hasnt chucked the chain as often either and has required less adjusting. i'm rough on my bikes and even on a totally rigid bike and heavy bumps this derailleur works well. all round good dependable gear that can handle some rough treatment.

keeps on shifting even when it's dirty. my previous model (98)has had a heavy test in the bulge and has seen a lot of mud and sand. wheels lasted 2 years have been replaced by tacx

    Weakness:

broke on a piece of wood, so not a real weakness. can shift faster at times

a good derailleur for a good price you must like the shifter that come along with it
