Selle San Marco Regal Saddle

DESCRIPTION

The San Marco Regal is easy to distinguish from all other saddles at sight. It is a professional racing style saddle that begins with a molded nylon base. There are no depressions for extra padding at pelvic contact points. Over the shell is a molded, thin layer of high density expanded foam padding. Surrounding the foam pad and shell, a leather covering is glued. The perforation process puts small, fine holes in a grid throughout the surface of the smooth leather before it is cut and cemented down to the padding and the shell. The leather around the nose is trimmed remarkably well using multiple cuts to give it a superior fit.

Strength:

Very comfortable long distance saddle. Used by me on Lands End to JOG ride, and for use on my winter and 'best' bike. Lots of miles on these and, after 50 years of serious cycling, none better.

Weakness:

None, when properly fitted.

For long distance riding the contact points are crucial. Hands, feet and saddle. Spread the load between them, get the set up absolutely right and this will make far more difference than a few grams saved on a carbon frame. Good riding.

Strength:

Quality. Comfort. Longevity of design.

Weakness:

Weight compared to the ultra lite saddles.

This saddle is one of the classic designs of all time. It's one of the few saddles that has been around for the past 20 years. It's survived because it is well made and comfortable.

I have lots of saddles and I'd sidelined this one for a few years while I used a few others. Recently I re-installed it and I now realize what I've been missing.

It's available in black, white or brown (suede) and steel or titanium rails. My old one has the original aluminum rails but they're not offered anymore.

It's instantly recognizable with its brooks-like copper rivets. It's a quality saddle for beginner or expert alike.
