Strength:

They're difficult to remove from the holder so I can throw 'em out.

Weakness:

As previously noted, these pads greatly contribute to premature rim wear. Almost immediatly they remove chunks of metal from the machined surface. The embedded metal particles WILL grind your rim to smithereens wet or dry.

SD-7 calipers are best for the money and close to the absolute best linear pulls ever made.

RIM STRANGLER pads are the absolute worst thing you can grind your rims with. . .

Who the heck at Avid reads these reviews and fails to change this?

Go figure?

Strength:

Excellent stopping power, No Noise

Weakness:

No bling factor.

I see a lot of negative reviews on these but for my set up they have proved to be the best set up.

These just work without the noise. The logics seemed to loose some power compared to the Avids WR2 but at least they too were quite. I tried teh Cool Stop MTB Salmon pads and although they stop better than anything they also have an tendency to squeal, especially on a dry hot day with an extended period of decending. Same with the Thin line red but to a lesser extent than the Salmons.

The Avids don't seem to be as sticky as the cool stops but I never got the squealing issue with the Avids. When I first got my SD7's with the WR2 pads I remember thinking they worked about as good as the XTR Hydro Discs (when dry)on one of my other rides.

Strength:

appear to stop OK

Weakness:

deafening noise emitted when used

Cannot be used after 7pm due to noise restrictions.

The pads emit insane amounts of squeal on my rims. Changed & put on some toe out & were bearable for 2 stops, then back to insane levels.

I've used 5 or so other compounds from other manufacturers & nothing like this has happened before.

Strength:

Not as bad as stock shimano pads. Stop moderately OK (not as bad as shimano pads).

Weakness:

"Rim Wrangler"??? is this a typo? Should be "Rim Mangler".

Came stock with a set of Avid SD7s - brilliant caliper, crap pad. After 1 wet and 1 dry ride on a sandy trail I had to take the emery paper to my brand new rims and pick out little shards of rim from the pads. Swapped out for kool stops and now all is right with the world.

Strength:

Better than Shimano LX

Weakness:

friction/stopping power

I've been using these on the rear for a long time, and they stopped just fine. But recently I discovered that my WTB Dual Compound (you know, with the "cleaning" orange edge) were scraping away my rim sidewalls like sandpaper, so I put these on. Not a good switch. I'll bet my stopping distance increased by a third.

I just bought two pair of WTB Razor Blade standard pads. Based on past experience, I'll bet they work a lot better. If you buy a pair of Avid brakes, immediately switch out the pads.

Weakness:

the stock DINA pads are horrible, unless you love squeal!!

I spent a couple hours trying to set-up these pads. Initially set-up with no toe, then with toe, squeeled like crazy regardless. I don't understand why avid would ship these pads with the avid black-ops ultimates. IMO these pads are crap. Replaced the pads with some kool-stops inserts and the squeal disappeared!

Ok for street use.

Weakness:

Fail in wet/muddy conditions. Over heat quickly in hard use. Removed pads and found bits of aluminum inbedded deeply in the pads, scored the rim. These pads have no bussiness being on a mtn. bike...

Toss these asap go with the salmon colered Koolstops or WTB razor blades..

These pads heat very quickly and then become overly sticky and unpredictable. On the front this means extremely poor modulation. On the back, the wheel locks unpredictably on hard or high speed braking. The pads were about 3/4 gone after one ride. The brake locking along with just a little bad luck with a car coming the other way could have killed us. These pads are history!!

this tripe came with my avid 7s when i upgraded.i asked the wrench to put my koolstops back on but the buzzard said he couldnt force himself since the wranglers were supposed to be plush high end stuff.they desinigrated (sp?) in less than one hour in mud and snow.if you look up the term "mountain bike" in the dictionary it says something to the effect of bicycle designed for all terrain all WEATHER use.somebody didnt get the word.lets review :no stopping power, sandblasts rims, disolves in water. totally unsat.dont deserve even 1 inflamed bung hole.
