This bike is amazing, even with 5" rear travel this bike climbs better than anything I've ridden, with the monolink suspension there is virtually no bob. decending on this bike is also great, the suspension hooks up great, and the compact feel of the frame makes it great in technical terrain. Overall a awesome XC bike that will get you to the top before anyone else, but will still let you compete with larger travel bikes going down

Climbs like a hard tail on roids. Decends fast downhill which leads to shaky hands with an endorphin rush. Maverick makes possible the worlds best full suspension mountain bike to date. No need for pro pedal here.

Weakness:

Proprietary parts may be a bummer for some even though there products are really trick

When a new latest greatest full suspension bike comes out I ride it and try to really fall in love with the way it rides. Then it never fails that I end up back on the Maverick. I would love to find some competition for this design because I feel like I have turned super bias towards Paul Turners designs. Get a maverick and never have another regret again.

This bike climbs like a goat......... as long as I can pedal it, up it goes. Started with the Maverick SC fork. The bike worked very well compared to others I've ridden. Got a screamin deal on a Maverick DUC fork. WOW. HUGE improvement. The bike was definitely designed with either fork in mind. Cool thing with the DUC is that the fork drops nearly 2" for climbing mode. This tilts the bike perfectly for XC too. Sometimes I leave it there for the flats to get the more powerful and speedy XC positioning. When getting fit to the bike, Alex at World Cycles set me up on the climbing/XC mode position. This is perfect and makes the saddle a bit noze up for the downhill. Oh yeah, the downhill - FREIGHT TRAIN. The SC was OK, but this bike with 5" rear travel and the 6" travel DUC front is now point and shoot. I'm still getting used to the things I can go through. Haven't found the limit yet. This thing screams. With 600g tires It weighs in at 25.5 pounds. WAY light for this much travel and this much fun. I'm a short, muscley Clydesdale at 100Kg and this thing is perfect. Shock service for the frame and fork is so easy. If you have any mechanical ability at all, you'll have the best bike of your dreams. Nathan @ Maverick will hook you up with all the tuning tips to create your own personal ride. I did a combo of two settings and have a plush ride with the stability where I need it........... using all of my suspension but NEVER bottoming out.

If you live in SD and don't trust yourself to dial the hing in, email me and I'll help you out....... ;~)

Unless the frame ever breaks (knock on wood - and I'd buy another hands down) this is the last bike I'll own.... the quest is over. Oh, and when you need help, the Maverick team is ALWAYS there.

Strength:

Brilliant design, build quality, outstanding climbing ability, secure handling, zero and I mean zero pedal induced movement in the rear suspension, ever.... Well balanced and loves to go up or down. The 2007 model frame I have (blue one) is built out of the higher grade 6069 tubing vs the published 6061 according to Ethan of Maverick...

Weakness:

Paint quality is fine but I would have much preferred ano for durability. Seems to be considered a bit low brow by other Maverick owners because it was welded in Asia vs the U.S. as I believe all their other models are. I personally could care less where it was built.

When I first purchased the frame I ran the SC32 which is a great fork (which is now on my Epiphany by the way) and the bike was too tilted toward XC for my taste. Not enough ground clearance, mediocre climber, a bit twitchy at the bar. Then I swapped the Maverick SC32 fork with the Pike on my Ellsworth. Both bikes were instantly better. Since this review is on the Matic I stick with it. The ride is now 100% All Mountian and perfectly balanced for my taste. The extra 3/4" axel crown length and 13MM of travel on the PIKE really made everything about the Matic better. Climbs like a goat, a freight train down hill, great all around trail bike very much like my buddies Maverick 7/5 with the DUC32. Maverick got the design right with this bike and it is every bit as enjoyable as my Epiphany even though a few lbs. heavier. Especially since I purchased the frame and fork at less than half the cost of the Ellsworth frame alone on sale at Beyond Bikes.. I know have my Epi set up as a 25lbs dry weather slightly more XC biased ride (tire choice mostly) and the Matic as the go riding regardless of the weather and trail conditions AM bike. I could not be more pleased with the Matic

This bike climbs fast without any BoB, thats something I can't say about any of my previous rides. The frame feels solidand stable downhill.

Weakness:

The fork doesn't have any platform so I swapped it out for a Pike.

I ride cross country and was looking for a bike where I didn't have to fiddle with the rear shock. Maverick has a great design that is as set it and forget it as I have found. The new style mono link has been trouble free.
Other bikes I have had with pro pedal rear shocks took away small bump sensitivity in order to give an efficient ride. Maverick rocks.

Strength:

Tracks well, climbs surprisingly well and is light. (27.5 lbs).
The bike also feels and looks very robust. I’m ~195 lbs and need a rugged bike.
Easy to reach dial for changing the front shock from downhill to uphill. And if I forget on a downhill section it still has about 2 to 3 inches of travel.

Weakness:

The dial/cover for the front shock is hard to remove. But other than that none, but then it is new so I will follow up in a year.

Ok I’ll start with this: I’ve had the bike only 3 months and ridden a dozen times. Why? I separated my shoulder, fractured the collarbone and tore my left tricep in a fairly spectacular crash the day before the bike arrived. (Well my buddies said it was pretty spectacular, I have no memory of it).
But even with the bad wing, I have been able to have fun on it. At the end of September (6 weeks after accident) I did a 50 mile race and made it to 37 miles prior to cutting the brake line with the rotor, (my bad should have tuck the line behind the shock better). I was able to pretty much fly downhill although I being off a mountain bike for 6 weeks I can only imagine with time, how well I will head downhill. But the big thing was my shoulder felt fine. I was always pretty fast going downhill, but with the front ‘24’ axle, 180 disc front and 5-6 inches of travel, I’m anticipating this summer when I can “let go” again.

Since the VT race, I have ridden it several times and it is fast and steady. I can feel the front tracks much better than anything else I have ridden. The 6 inches also feels great when flying down. (I do feel OK now – not 100% but closer). I have also found the dial is easy to reach and turn so that when going up hill I can limit the front shock’s travel so it climbs better. The big 180 front rotor is great for getting back into control when I start letting go.

Specialized FSR, Cannondale Rush, Intense Spider - Note the reason I got this bike is cause of the Spider. The Spider kept breaking at the bolt for the rear shock to rear triangle. I have been blamed for this by them, which pissed me off some. Honestly, I did ride a little stiffer than recommended (15 % travel as opposed to 20-25%), but for what I paid for the bike, that shouldn’t have mattered. The replacement deal was ridiculous. So at least in my circle of riding buddies, none of us will ever get one. But now, I looked over the bike and found several cracks at the weld lines and they essentially said “tough sh!t, you can buy a new 5.5 frame” for mucho denero (I’ll leave that between I and them). I’m pissed.
