This bike is a great affordable introduction to full suspension mountain bikes. I purchased it brand new on clearance at a steal of $200 + $50 shipping. I couldn't find a similarly equipped hardtail at that price. As a beginner mountain biker, it's wonderful, but my next bike will probably be a hardtail in the $500-$700 price range, as an intermediate biker.

I rode it pretty hard and jumped it quite a bit when I first got it...definitely not what it was designed for, and I've refrained since.

The stock components are decent for awhile, but after a few months the square drive crank began loosening every ride and was reamed out after 6 months of pretty hard riding. I replaced it with a Shimano Octalink crankset. I tried a 68 x 113mm english Bottom Bracket, but that was too short and the crank arm hugged up against it. I then tried the next size up: 68 x 118mm BB, and while that worked, the outer chainwheel was too far out for the derailer to reach, and I have been only using the first two gears ever since...not good.

I'm a short guy at 5'4", and my bike is a bit big at 17", but using a shorter stem makes it fit decently with the seat post down.

One thing I really love about this bike are the brakes. My friends have cable disc brakes, and none of them can match the stopping power and brake feel that the Maverick Trail has. I'm still on the original pads, too, 4 years later.

My biggest complaint is the frame. It makes a constant creaking sound while in motion, and when you try to wiggle/bend the frame, it sounds like creaking metal. It hasn't exploded on me yet, so I've just been ignoring it thus far.

The rims are pretty standard. With my riding style, I find myself re-truing the rear every season or more.

The derailleurs leave a bit to be desired, as they've never really shifted perfectly. I switched out the crappy gripshift friction shifters for some Alivio trigger shifters.I could probably benefit from a professional tune, though...

I replaced the pedals with some clip-ons.

A great bike for a beginner.

Great bike for the $$$ .... Although I had a frame failure ( blaming it on the way the bike hit in zero deg. weather )( replaced by factory ) No Probs. in 4 years of riding it hard.

Weakness:

All components . This IS an entry level bike ...... I bought this with the intentions of replacing the components as they wore out .... that didn't take long ,as I do put some hard miles on it

The only thing original on this bike is the frame ..... Which is why I bought it in the first place .... With the intentions of up grading from the start .. Turned out to be a Great bike .... Hard to buy a Frame for $250.Saved a lot of $$$$ building it myself & buying components on sale. I ride with a lot of High $$ bikes , and they can't believe what I have for so little $$ . Love My Horse !!

This bike is priced low for what you get. This is a great bike for beginners and will not give you any problems when used for it's intended purpose.

Weakness:

The shifters, and crank are rubbish. I'd recommend upgrading them. If you use this on technical downhill trails (this isnt a downhill bike) like the yellow trail in philadelphia you will notice that the suspension isnt that great. Not to bad mouth this bike though I would recommend this bike to any beginner.

This is a bike worth owning if youre looking to get into MTB riding, have fun and not spend 2000+ dollars on a bike.

I'm new to MTB riding. The only other full suspension MTB i've ever owned was a Schwinn Protocol 2.0...I've been a BMX rider for years.

Great price! Perfect for a beginner...

Weakness:

Heavy! Also the front and rear shock could be better.

This is a great bike for the money!I bomb a mile long downhill on my fav trail(its not moab or anything) and clock 40+ mph... Never had any weld issues. I keep the bike maintained and clean as you should... I was very suprised with the brakes! They have plenty of bite and I prefer mechanical over hydraulic anyway. Buy this bike if you are looking to get started on the cheap! Keep it maintained and clean it and it should outlive you!

Price!!! Looks Hot does the job. Nothing broken yet.

Weakness:

Cranks suck. Bottomed out forks had to change. I only weigh 150. Front rotor needed to be and 8 in.

Change the suspension, rotors and the cranks and you have a wonderful bike. Great to get started on and will grow with you. I can see the frame craking if the appropriate set up is not used. Looks great and once the rear shock is sorted it tracks very nicely. Hit some pretty rough downhill sections and no problems at all. Wheels seem like they will last a long time. If you are a large rider steer clear. Im 150 at 6 ft and it rides well over 200 will not enjoy this.

Weakness:

pedals suck! crankset sucks! and thats bout all

I have been rough on this bike, it has taken dozens of four foot drops, doubles, tabletops, cements slabs and other unstable riding conditons. I must have gone over the handlebars over 15 times and hit at least 20 trees (im not a bad rider just a bit extreme)ide say its fairly bomb proof (as far a XC Bikes go). Just dont test it on any 12 foot drops, you might regret it...

Great value for entry level mountain bike. Great for country roads. Full suspension gives soft ride on gravel roads. A leap above "department store" bikes. This is a real bike, even though entry level.Dependable for country roads.

Weakness:

Heavy as a tank. Not designed for extreme trails or jumps. You won't see this bike doing tricks on X-games. Probably would not sustain itself with hardcore trail rider.

If you're looking for performance that'll impress your buds, this bike is not for you. If you're looking for a bike to ride down country roads or short country commute, this could be a reliable bike for a reasonable price. This would be the perfect bike for Jason, a friend of mine who is looking for just such a bike. I'm pleased with it.

Great grips.

Weakness:

Brakes, shifters. The brakes started to rub on the disc so it was hard to petal

Great bike for the money. It holds up great on medium-sized drops. I'm not very heavy, but it held up fine on repeated five-foot drops to flat landings. I've also taken it on some large jumps and nothing broke (except my shin). The brakes were terrible and I had to get them fixed at it's one-month tune up. They had to replace my front and rear discs and had to put on a new front wheel. Other than that, it is a great bike for enyone who does light downhill and XC.
