Strength:

Outstanding build and weight distribution. Frame is very well designed for my riding style-adventrous! I have taken this bike to the brink and it has stood up to the heat with great responsiveness. The mid range componentry is adequate for non-RACING, but you can fling this thing around. Its kept me stable on very dubious tracks.

Weakness:

TruVative cranks had a crack in them upon purchase-they gave me the Deore upgrade for free-the difference...........Put it this way (you MUST upgrade the cranks to see what this drivetrain is capable of) The new cranks are 10000 times better. Brakes fade under pressure, but its a mid range bike, so you can except that.

I research every purchase I make, this was the best value bike on the market when I bought it 4 years ago. It runs better now thanks to the cranks upgrade. Overall I would highly recommed this bike to the occasional rider who has an adventerous spirit and a bit of skill to go with it. This bike will not let you down wether youre crusing to the beach or caining down a weaving singletrack. Change the brakes if you are a heavy build and intend on riding downhill at pace. Other than that you can hammer this bike around and you'll be pleasently surprised. I've thought I was going to get thrown off this bike on several occasions due to my eagerness for speed and genuine lack of personal wellbeing. I believe this frame is ideally weighted for me as it has saved my neck on countless occasions by just either tracking in a straight line or keeping that back wheel on the ground when REALLY needed. This a relatively cheap bike with outanding all-roundedness.

I've had good bikes in the past (Diamond back, Mongoose and GT) This bike has great pick up-accelaration. Its a bit heavy on demanding trails but it's weight does add to its overall stability under pressure.

Strength:

Combination of high quality components with a very nice frame

Weakness:

A bit nose heavy as 2009 stock. At 13.4kg, it's a bit heavy compared to the competition. Fixed that by changing fork, Deore crank and pedals.

Perfect beginner's bike with upgraded fork and Deore crank for just under $1000 total. Though the Scott Scale 70 2009 at 12.8kg is a nice alternative also just under $1000 stock.

Strength:

Stylish, light, very comfortable and responsive

Weakness:

Crankset TruVativ 5D, Cassette SunRace JuJu

I like this bike very much, especially its massive plutonium frame. It is light and comfortable. The breaks are excellent, shifters are quite tough, but they do its task well.
I am disappointed in Crankset TruVativ 5D - it's real junk. It's too weak. I bent it after 6 months and next season I am going to change it onto DEORE M-533. Cassette SunRace JuJu is poor - two "stars" are quite "torn" by the chain, which makes sometimes glitches while shifting. Cassette will be changed too. Also I killed one of the DP17 rims. These rims won't do for extreme riding like crankset and cassette mentioned above. These components badly spoil this cool bike.
And one more drawback - paint comes off the frame easily from light knocks. Should you hit the bike or lay to any metal or stone the paint secedes from frame, so it demands very accurate care.
This bike is excellent for beginners, but experienced riders won't go without some upgrades.

I bought an '06 in May of '07 so these comments pertain to an '06. Ridiculous price - almost $250 below list. The bike is light, fast, nimble, easy to maneuver has better components than comparable bikes (Deore drive train, top to bottom, disk brakes, Alex rims and Conti tires).

Weakness:

I don't like the seat (WTB Rocket V Comp), although it is popular with others. I didn't like the grips. The fork could be better quality, although it does have a lockout (Sun Tour XCM). Pedals with straps are dangerous. These things could be easily upgraded.

Great deal. Quality name and quality bike.
Highly recommended.

I'll post again after a season of riding her.

I would have still brought this bike if I have rode it before. Its a good bike and Its the only bike that I have seen with the shifter in the brake handle.
