GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc GTw Womens

DESCRIPTION

The hard-tail that all others are measured by. When you're ready to graduate from that first rig you bought - the one they told you was capable of being ridden off-road, but which was really ready for campus cruising - the Avalanche is without question the bike you want. More than just a bike which you can ride about town, the Avalanche is also equipped for gnarly trails and sublime single track. With lightweight, triple-triangle aluminum frames, trail-ready component specs, and front suspension, the Avalanche is chomping at the bit to earn its wings. Are you?

durability, components, everything

none!

i waited until i got at least 30 good aggressive mountain biking runs in before i wrote this review. i initially purchased the trek 4300 and kept breaking the cranks. i eventually returned it for the GT and couldnt be happier. for about 700 your getting a bike with components typically found on $1500 bike. i am about 280 lbs and have beat this bike up and it still holds strong. awesome bike!

Strength:

Good looking, hydraulic brakes, light, strong frame.

Weakness:

Suntour forks, so far they have been fine, but would have preferred rockshocks.

I brought this bike 2nd hand, but it had been hardly used and it was great value. I try to get out twice a week on it and most of the trails I ride on it are quite technical.

In the 6 months I have had the bike it has handled very well, during a major crash I had the only damage was the handbrake level popping out. I was able to simply push it back onto the ball joint and it has been fine since.

This year of bike (2008 I believe) came with a suntour fork, where as most other years have come with a rockshocks fork. So far the suntour fork has been great, but I know the reputation of them is not as good as other brands.

If you are after a good quality hard-tail bike with good components and can get it for a price similar to mine, go for it!

Strength:

Reliable, efficient, stimulating

Weakness:

big frame: cross bar bit higher than specs would suggest: said I'd sit comfortably on a small frame (I'm not tall) but the cross bar is a bit close to my undercarriage

2009 model, white. Bought GT again as the tequesta was a great bike. Comfortable for all day riding and efficient enough to do roads as well as trails. I'm no mechanic so I like the reliability GT offer, all working really well so far, first proper downhill last week and flew it! Great salesmanship and service by LBS at Sunset too, thanks.
