VERY LIGHT, GOOD FRAME, UPGRADEABLE, PRICE

Weakness:

CRANK

I STARTED OUT WITH THE UNIVEGA ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND SINCE HAVE BOUGHT A 2001 FISHER SUGAR & A 2002 FISHER TASSAHARA. I GOT CAUGHT UP INTO BRAND AND COMPONENENTS, BUT FOR THE MONEY THE UNIVEGA IS A GREAT BIKE. I RIDE HARD ABOUT FOUR DAYS A WEEK & THERE IS NOTHING THE UNIVEGA CAN'T DO THAT THE OTHERS CAN. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GET A UNIVEGA!!

The price, great amount of bang for the buck theory applies here. I was never an RST fan till I got this bike. It works fine for the average rider, so there's no reason to downplay it. Adjustable forks?? Ohhh... big deal.. If you don't have a sponsor then you don't really need it.

Weakness:

I'm not a fan of the components up front. The derailer and all. My plan was to buy it, wear out the low end components and replace them. Funny thing is, I still haven't been able to wear them out. My original weakness is turning out to be less and less of one.

Sweet bike for the money; haven't been able to wear out what I thought were low end components yet... I did manage to bend a couple of teeth of my crank once, but I bent them back and kept going. Wasn't really the bikes fault, I'm the one who's timing was bad : ) Ouch.... but that's another story... Bang for the buck all.... Well worth the price.... Check it out if you're just starting out... If ya haven't noticed, I REALLY REALLY hate this bike : ) J/K L8R all.... Happy trails.....

Spec. GT..... Too much money for a bike I didn't like even slightly better.... Even though most frames are frames I like the fact that Univega's are made here in the US... My money stays home.....

Shocks are not for real hard riding but fine for the price

Perfect starter bike. Wear the cheap components out and you still have a nice frame to put your upgrades on.

Frame, frame, frame. Low end components not all that bad, for low end that is. Price is right.

Weakness:

Fork, gripshifters (personal bias).

For passive and part-time riders this is a great bike. Also for shorter riders, the frame is well proportioned. Univega, whether or not people have a grudge against Raleigh, still makes a quality bike. I ride it off road and to work daily, pretty solid throughout.

For the money, this bike is pretty alright. Cheap components but not junk. Reasonably light, strong rims (haven't bent them). If you want a bike that rides nicely for a cheap price, get it. Recently bought a full supsion K2 and stil like this bike. Only complaint I can come up with is front derail. It works but could work better. Again for the money nice machine.l

The frame is alright, I have had a couple nice rides with it, the components suck! The fork is not all that great, but then again I only paid $350 for it. Keep the frame, lose the components, pick up a new fork and you could have a great bike, I recommend you buy a GT.
