    Strength:

It was a good starting bike, good frame and grips.
The Rst shocks were good to start out with, but soon replaced.

    Weakness:

The cheaper shimano running gear didn't last(but still using it) long or the plastic pedals. The rims are cheap single wall and the rear was flat spotted in no time.

The bike goes really well xc and downhill with the above setup, I'll just have to change the shimano running gear and it will be a great bike.

    Strength:

Nice colour scheme (black/yellow) extending to everything; frame, seat, grips, and even tyre sidewalls (did Avanti get an artistic director in for painting their bikes, or what?!). Fat frame. Easily adjustable front shockers. Decent Shimano V-Brakes that stop 'on a dime' (is that what you guys in North America say?).

    Weakness:

The Acera running gear is smooth, however, the first night I had the bike, I managed to bend the derailleur. This is not an indictment on the Acera line, I'm sure. However, I'm convinced this would not have occurred had a Deore or XT setup been used instead. The 'EZ-fire' shifters are okay, however, as I'm used to the trusty 'ol Rapidfires, will soon be upgrading. RST shock? Very comfortable and easy to adjust, but because I like to spend the $$$ on my hobby/addiction, will soon be getting a Marzocchi air Bomber fork put on (then the bike be the Bomb!). Nothing else, really. Oh, the seat. Though it's a cool colour, matching the bike 'n all, I suggest a nice gel seat that will support 'yo, otherwise, look forward to major numb-bum!

If you're looking for a reliable recreational bike, for commuting (my main use) and the occasional jaunt in the 'wilderness' for X-Country, then this is an excellent buy. I don't think much of the Acera running gear, however, it does the job. The RST shock is smooth, comfortable and, for the meantime, gives me enough travel when hitting the mean city streets or those moderately scary trails in the Blue Mountains. However, I don't see it lasting, so the Marzocchi Bomber will soon be in its place! The Shimano V-Brakes are A-O.K. And now for some Chili-Willies ...

    Strength:

    Cheap beginer bike

    Weakness:

I've broken the frame at the head tube and down tube intersection. I'm only 140lbs and dont drop offs.
front and rear derailures are both looe, partly my fault.

My model had RST Discs, they were terible. The cheap rims look like potatoe chips.

A good beginers bike, probably not a good bike for those looking to do regular off road,
and not for the racing inclined persons.
Apart from being 15kg and the price its an OK bike

    Strength:

The Shimano V-brakes on this bike have more than enough stopping power for the average weekend warrior. The lightweight 6061 aluminium frame is a delight, as well as the adjustable RST front shocks.

    Weakness:

After riding the bike for the first few weeks, i found that the seat wasn't as comfortable as i first thought. Also, i would have thought that Avanti could have provided a better pedal system than the boring black plastic one that came standard on the bike.

Overall, the Hurricane is a very well balanced bike for your dollar. I mainly use it for commuting to and from work, and sometimes through bush tracks on weekends. It is interesting to note thought that as i write this review, news the of 2002 models of Avanti bikes does not include the hurricane in its line up. Interesting to hear! Nonetheless, i am quite happy with my bike and i am more than sure that it can provide me with several good years of riding.
