Strength:

Bike still rocks after 8 years of riding!! I looked at Intense,Santa Cruz, etc and read all the hype (VPP) but cant part with my Mantra. No mechanical problems ever.

Weakness:

There are alot of lighter bikes out there now. Bike is considered heavy today. Need to upgrade components to get the weight down.

The bike is a classic and still performs at the level of new bikes in it's class with some upgrades. Definetly not a big hit insane downhill bike. Great epic, all mountain bike.

Strength:

Agile responsive climber,Good looks, plush ride.Rear has plenty of travel.Very strong frame, can take my 240 lb with ease.

Weakness:

Steep descents can be very very scary till you get used to it.Stock revolt tires lack traction.Front derailuer needs lots of adjustments.

This is my second FS bike the last one being an entry level bike. There is a definite learning curve with this bike and unless you spend some time on it , a test drive wont tell you crap about it.Getting over the steep head angle takes time and a few endos. But when you get dialed into the ride its unbelievable. It will take you through tecnical rocky sections with ease, the rear stays in contact with the ground always .Making climbing super easy. Its as if it wants to climb all by itself.
Being a Clyde I have set this bike up with the Stiffest spring in the Manitou SX forks and run the Fox R at 350 lb's. The Hayes give excellant stopping power. I love this bike and it has improved my riding skills in technical areas and descents. And contrary to what one guy said this bike is NOT a Trek. It is 100% KLein, with all the Klein quality you expect. Sadly you will only get this bike used in the future as its design has been dropped ,not because of bad geometry but because of competing popular designs.Hence the Adept. Which may be my next bike, as I am sold on Klein.Yes you pay more for the name, but the quality is unmatched.
This is not a DH bike, more like of an all around bike. Great for the long rides.

Strength:

The bike is very responsive, quick to negotiate the roots, rocks, holes, and misc. when you are all out. The travel in the suspension makes for a great ride.

Weakness:

The rear triangle broke at the rear axle. Klien fixed it, but it took them 6 weeks to respond. The angle of the front fork is quite verticle, which gives it the quick response, this combined with the Manitou fork makes the bike very quick to pull the rear wheel into the air when going over logs, dropping into holes, or steep decents. I broke a pedal within 30 days of owning the bike,(they replace it), The rear derailer hanger bends very easily and I need to keep a stock pile of hangers, due to the lead time of a couple of weeks to get a new one.

I ride hard, I weight 200 lbs. I like the bike. The bike is aggressively responsive and is not designed for the casual rider. A taller front fork would be a benefit to the geometry.

I owned and rode a Klien Attitude hard tail for 6 years that I loved. (Kind of hard on the tail bone.)

Strong frame. lightweight, and comes in an XL frame

Weakness:

none, but cheaper bikes will copy klein's designs

not an entry level bike, but it suits my needs just perfectly, I found a '99 model brand new but has a few scratches on it, store owner claimed it was shipped from klein that way, which I find damn hard to believe...but if the price was right, I'd buy it, upgrade the components and keep my GF off of it!

this is my 2nd bike..I upgraded from a Trek 4500 which I outgrew in about 1.5 months, I knew I wanted a FS bike and happened to come across one in a local store. the frame design is distinctive, and more peole stare at this bike..:)

Strength:

Light weight, Killer looks And good parts for the $$$.

Weakness:

Stock slick tires lick the nuts.

Sweet bike. The unified triangle took some getting use to, But it is super plush. Climbs very well and handles sweet on tight technical single track. It is not as stable on fast fire road decents, however.
Bottom line good cross country, average downhill.
It sure gets the looks from your fellow riders. Its worth the price of admission for this reason alone.

Strength:

Climbs great for a full suspension bike. You get the benefits of a full suspension without sacrificing the climbing ability of a hardtail. This IS the full suspension bike for people who do not like full suspension bikes!

Weakness:

It takes a while to dial this bike in to be fully comfortable and efficient. Tires are tractionless.

When I first bought this bike I had an awful time getting it set-up correctly. I was not wildy happy with it the first few weeks. But now I have it dialed in correctly and it is the bomb. I raced in an adventure race this past weekend and it had 60 km of climbing and my team (all with Klein bikes) blew past everbody up the hill - the hardtails were left in our wake. This thing chews up the nastiest singletrack. It is made for rocky, rooted trails. The bike absorbs the ground clutter and allows you to keep on pedaling not matter the terrain. This bike absolutely rules. It you are looking for a full suspension bike to take the edge off rough, rocky singletrack trails, but still want to be able to climb like you are on a hardtail - this is your bike!!!!! Klein should rename the company "Climb" rather than "Klein"

GT XCR 3000, GT Avalanche (test road both several times). The XCR is too "bouncy" during pedaling and the Avalanche is too harsh on boulders and roots.

Strength:

Plush ride, excellent climber, smooth drivetrain. Looks soo sweet. You'll sacrifice the body to save the bike.

Weakness:

Pedals were hard to get the right hold vs release. Swapped with old Richey's I was use to. Either I couldn't get out of them or would "bounce" out of them going over large log ramps. Probably just needed to be "broke in."

I switched from a 99 Rockhopper FS. No comparison, I climb better, negotiate obstacles with eaze, and my chode isn't sore afterwards. I had no problems transitioning from my hardtail to this bike. I don't want to stop riding but my cold winter muscles start screaming at me after 3 hours. FYI this was the last base Mantra in OR, ID and WA. I called all but about 4 shops listed on Klien's site. Grab one quick if want a new one. A few comps floating around though. Last years inventory is almost dry. Paying 1K new made this a steal.

Strength:

Best looking bike on the market, Fit & finish is perfect, great rear suspension.

Weakness:

I might try a riser bar, it does seem a little endo-prone on steep downhills

I love this bike. It has made me a much better rider. The rear suspension has this ability to only be there when you need it, and never bobs on the flats. It is very light and agile - the handling is almost instinctive, it's a hell of a step up from my costco Mongoose. I guess this model is getting hard to come by, so snap one up if you can, as the 2001 model is butt ugly.

Lightweight after modifications
Climbs like a freakin goat on crack
Plush ride
Frame design

Weakness:

"Plate style" front derailleur is not readily available
Bike didn't come with a shock pump

I spent a load of money on this bike knowing that I could of bought a Trek 9.9. Who cares!!
This bike is nice even with the factory selection of components. Once set up, the bike is very plush on the trail but solid enough to climb. Being a clyde and punishing the bike, it still holds up. I recommend this bike if you can still get it.

Strength:

Climbs like a mountain goat with his ass on fire. Light for a Full Suspension. Great Paint

Weakness:

Does not fit many hitch mounted racks.

I actually have the 99' model but there is no listing and since they are almost identical I figured I would post here. This bike is a lot of fun. It incorporates all the climbing ability of a Hard tail with the plush ride of a Full Suspension. It simply does not bob. No matter what! I did however break the rear triangle on a trip to Whitetail Ski Resort. I don't recall being that harsh on the bike but it snapped anyway. Klein did replace it for me but it took a little over 2 months. It seems they had to make me a new rear tringle from scratch. With some TLC this bike is a great all around ride. I give it 4 burning roadies.
