I would agree entirely with the last reviewer; do not trust your mountain bike to these guys. I bought my first mountain bike from them in the early nineties. The shop was much larger and had a guy working there who was pretty knowledgable. That was a good experience, actually. After that, even though I spent a lot of money on clothes and accessories at that shop, I have never been happy with the place, and wasn't treated like a paying customer. Now there's another business in the other half of the building. Guess they didn't do enough business to pay the rent. I know that it's a good idea to support your LBS, but this store is the reason I started shopping online in the first place. This shop could not stay in business on it's own; they have another larger shop in northern Illinois.

Customer Service

I have overheard the person working there totally trying to sell people a bike they don't need, the place is small, and chances are they don't have what you need. Perhaps if you are a bmx'er or a roadie your experience is different. Anyone can order a part for you and get it fast. Heck, I can do that myself. We had another shop in town a few years ago and I was pulling for them to make it. Sadly, that did not happen, so RRB is still the only game in town. I don't think there's another bike shop around here for 20 miles.

I will say that I haven't been to this shop in over a year; perhaps it is better now. Based on what I've heard it hasn't. I live within 5 miles of RRB, but I'd rather drive 10 times further than give them my business. The last time I called them l was looking for a bleed kit for disc brakes, but they didn't have one, but of course they could order one. So can I.

This review is based on my experience as a mountain biker, perhaps a roadie would have a better opinion of the place.

I brought my bike to this shop recently to have my rear flat repaired and a tune-up. They told me it would be about a week and that they would call me when it was ready. Ten days later, still no call, so I called to ask if it was ready. They said yes. When I got there, a young girl waited on me, handed me a bill for $80.00, and went to get my bike. When she rolled it out, I noticed that the rear tire was still flat! She didn't even notice it as she wheeled it out, I had to point it out to her. She was very soft spoken and I could barely hear her when she talked and she seemed nervous and inexperienced. All this time another employee, seemingly the manager or owner, stood several feet away joking talking to someone else. The girl mumbled something and took my bike back into the back room. Two other customers came and went that she waited on. Finally I asked her, "Am I waiting for my bike to be repaired or what? Because I had just planned on stopping by to pick it up real quick." With that, the other employee overheard me and stopped yucking it up with his friend and said to me, "I'll take care of it for you." The girl obviously didn't know what to do. He went into the back room, and a few minutes later rolled my bike out and said, "Sorry, we had a bad batch of tubes -- I thought yours was one, but it wasn't." I paid my bill and left. Mind you, at this place no one offers to hold the heavy glass door open for you when you're coming or going. Last year it slammed on my leg as I was leaving with my bike which cut my leg and bled pretty bad. This time upon leaving another customer was standing at the door with his bike and my bike got caught on his, twice, as I was struggling to get it out of the door. Neither employee offered to help or hold the door. I took the bike to the trail that day and to my dismay whenever I put it in 3rd gear, the chain slipped. It had never done that before. My bike is a 2-year-old Giant. The next morning I took the bike out again, got to the trail and the rear tire was flat! I will be taking the bike back first thing tomorrow and asking for a refund. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I believe they only stay in business because there aren't any other bike shops nearby. I will NEVER trust my bike again to these clowns!
