Bikes Unlimited - Bikeshops, Lynchburg, Virginia

DESCRIPTION

Bikes Unlimited is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, and has been serving the greater Lynchburg area since 1967. In January 2011 Bikes Unlimited relocated to Historic Downtown Lynchburg right on the James River Heritage Bike Trail - in a unique building constructed in 1897. There is plenty of on-street parking and a parking lot next door! In addition to the bike trail adjacent to our building at 1312 Jefferson Street - we're just minutes away from great mountain bike trails and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Strength:

I have bought 8 bikes from Bike Unlimited over the years and have had numerous work done by them. My most recent bikes are a 2018 Giant Stance II and a 2020 Trek Checkpoint AL 3. The staff is top notch and there to help. My most recent work was converting my Stance to a 1 by, new brakes, and new hubs and wheel set. I can't spend tons of money on bikes and upgrades so they work with me and find the best parts for the price point I am willing to spend. I highly recommend this shop!

Weakness:

I really haven't had any issues with the service or the staff.

The shop itself is in a wonderful location, adjacent to a very nice bike trail and pizza parlor - while not essential, the location does add to the enjoyment of visiting. More importantly, the shop is well appointed with many selections of bicycles and gear. Once inside, you are surrounded with one of the nicest arenas for cycling in the State. That being said, the most important feature of the shop are the people inside.

Customer Service

The service you receive from Van, Doug or one of the others is without parallel. They are always willing to assist or offer insights into any clycling issue, whether is involves road biking, seat selection, or calibrating your Garmen. The shop is owned by a passionate cyclist, Jack, who has whipped the shop into the best around. He is proactive in the community and stays current on the latest trends in cycling to assist customers. All around, Lynchburg is lucky to have Bikes Unlimited.

I read the negative comments from another reader. I can only say I have never experienced any such negative events. The one feature that marks this shop is their consistant willingness to go the extra mile to give good advice and great service.

Great bike shop - and their new locations on Jefferson Street and in Wyndhurst are terrific. I had originally gone in because I was thinking of buying a bike to tool around on while I'm at motorcycle races instead of trying to run from place to place on the track between sprints. They sold me exactly what I needed and even allowed me to upgrade at no additional charge - who does that? Awesome place, awesome staff, awesome experience (I have bought two bikes from them this year.)

Customer Service

I've called, emailed and even texted the owner of the place - again, who does that? Every staff member has been nothing but helpful and one of the guys even offered to take me to some of our local trails sometime to show me what out there since I'm new to mountain biking. I can't say enough about what a great group Bikes Unlimited have working at BOTH locations...

If you're in the market, give these guys a shot. Their Jefferson St location has an easy, paved trail in the immediate vicinity so you can demo your next potential bicycle and Waterstone pizza across the street is the perfect end to your day with great pizza and awesome local brews. What more could you need?

So i went to this shop after visiting blackwater bike shop(very non enthusiastic people) and its great, i came here to get a Trek wahoo, they told me everything i needed to get the bike up and running and keep it maintained, and after i had the wahoo for a bit, i wanted some more, so they even bought my bike back for full price ( used for about a month, great condition) and out the funds to a more serious bike ( trek hifi deluxe ).

Customer Service

they are very quick to get to you, and will take their time and let you soak up all the info you need. and also very kind

Very pleased with this shop. Knowledgable and helpful staff. Fair prices.

Customer Service

Although I haven't been there more than a handful of times, it's been top notch. These guys took the time and interest to re-educate me about the sport and the products available. Was so pleased with the shop after buying my new bike that I ended up going back within a few weeks to get a bike for my wife. Only been in once for a service-related issue with the new bike, and they were as helpful and friendly as when I first bought it. Took the time to talk up local trials and rides with me and provided some maps.

I visited this shop for the first time a few months ago. It's one of two bike shops in town, and I checked out both. I was in the market for a new mountain bike after about a decade out of the saddle. I wanted someone helpful to talk to me about the changes over the last 10 years and get me fitted for a good entry-to-intermediate level hardtail. Although this shop did not carry the brand of bike I used to ride and had originally set out looking for, they were so helpful and willing to spend time with me that I opted to buy from them anyway and go with a different brand. This store and it's helpful employees was quite a contrast from the kids running the other shop in town, who did carry the brand I set out looking for, but really couldn't be bothered with my questions. Everyone I've dealt with so far has known their stuff and didn't seem like they were in a hurry to make a sale and get rid of me.

So I take my bike over to this place to get a single speed conversion done. They give me my bike back and I take it outside and proceed to bust my a*s in the parking lot because the front tire has 10 lbs of air in it. Yes I should have checked it, but is it really that much to ask that when you get your bike back from the bike shop that the tires are properly inflated or at least you are notified that they are not? I'm not saying they sabotaged it or anything, I did take it there right after I was done riding it, but I was unaware of the slow leak in the front tire(obviously, considering the road rash that's now on my arm). So I take the front tire back inside and ask for some air. "oh yeah, I meant to tell you, your front tire has a slow leak in it." Thanks dude, Good lookin out! So on top of that whole incident they didn't even do the single speed right and the chain skipped whenever you started crankin on it. They denied this to end and said it just needed to "break in." I had to the take the bike to a competent bike(blackwater bike shop, check them out, they're awesome!) after I paid these morons just to have a working single speed. I mean the whole point of this endeavor was simplicity and bikes unlimited wasn't competent enough to accomplish that. So, at all costs, steer clear of this place unless you want a liability on your hands when you get your bike back.

I got a Devinci jersey from there once .it was special ordered for me and not only did the jesrsey look great and was a value price, they threw in a BUNCH of stickers and other stuff too. I know I know, "stickers big deal". when traveling for over an hour to get to the destination and expecting only a certain item, getting to meet an owner and his dog, get treated like Im their favorite customer, then get a ton of swag on my way out the door too!! all this because I ordered a jersey . not my everyday shopping experience for sure

Great shop, great people and more than fair prices. These guys are absolutely the most knowledgeable and helpful bunch around. They are all riders themselves and their passion for the sport shows through. Worth keeping $$$ local and not going out of town for only marginally better prices.

Customer Service

Impeccable service - all you have to do is ask.
