Blue Ridge Cyclery - Bikeshops, Charlottesville, Virginia

Blue Ridge Cyclery is a locally owned and operated bike shop that offers a full range of bikes and service. As of 2012, it is a dealer of Trek, Jamis, Pivot, Niner, & MirraCo bicycles.

From their website:

Who we are
Shawn started out at as a paramedic who found cycling and fell in love. Since then he has been a sponsored athlete for 8 years with experience in racing road, cyclocross, and mountain bike. His focus through most of his sponsored years has been endurance mountain bike racing with a keen focus on 12-24 hour races. As such, he understands comfort, nutrition and lightweight performance on a bicycle. Shawn continues to race and train on a regular basis and is looking forward to 2011 being an off year for racing.

Jenny is an avid runner who has discovered cycling as a great way to motivate and stay in shape during the really hot and really cold months. Her focus with bikes is on keeping things simple and comfortable. As a "newbie" to cycling, she understands the intimidation factor that many other area shops bring to the mix and is excited to bring a woman's sense of touch, style and riding to the mix at BRC. Come by and ask her about the "Jenny Rule" of cycling.

Also--don't forget Andy, the Shop Dog. As a Saint Bernard, he brings his own opinions on hydration, tire selection, and bed materials.

This is the best locally owned bike shop as of 2012*. They cater to all types of bikers. Very welcoming!

*note: I specify "locally owned" because Charlottesville's location of Performance is also a great shop. However, I recognize that there are many people looking to support local business owners.

Customer Service

I have had my bikes serviced at this shop a few times in the past year. Each time, I've had great service. Communication with the mechanics and other staff has always been clear. I was given straight forward options. The turn-around time was given ahead of time and they met what they said.

After I took my fork in for wiper and seal replacement, I even found that they had 'replaced' the rebound knob which I think they assumed had fallen out (I actually keep that piece in my bag or garage so that doesn't happen). Just one of those little touches that is a sign of a great shop that cares about your business.

If you are tired of some of the wanna-be boutique shops in the area that don't give you the time of day unless you've just stepped out of your Porshe or Beamer, then stop by this shop. Hopefully you'll find it as welcoming as I've had
