DESCRIPTION

About Us

Let’s start w/ the name:

We started out as a Cross Country MTB race team, that’s where the XC comes from. The 918 is our area code. It is a little quirky, but hopefully it sets us apart a bit.

The Owners:Scott, Ginger, Ray.

Ray & Scott have 20+ years experience in the Bicycle Industry. Ray’s experience comes as a Service Manager for several large shops in TX & OK and as a Factory racer for the Trek Factory Team for 10 years.

Scott’s experience comes as a Service Manager, then transitioning to an outside sales rep. With that combo we possess the wrench and cheesy salesman double whammy.

Now it would be a little starch around here if we didn’t have any creativity factored in, and that is where Ginger comes in. She is the person responsible for creating and building our website, as well as our Branding, Marketing, & Advertising. She is the one that gets the shop “all dressed up”, cause lord knows we still can’t dress ourselves.

The shop itself:

The first thing to say here is we have had a ton of help from friends & family and owe them not only a big thank you, but probably our first-borns as well.

We started the shop in January 2009 in a Saddle & Boot repair shop in Skiatook, OK….not really a hot bed for cycling activity. Ray is also a Fireman and one of his co-workers owned the Saddle & Boot repair shop and let us operate out of there for next to nothing.

Scott has a lot of contacts in the Industry & was able to use those to overcome a lot of those “who are these guys and why do we want to do business with them” hurdles.

We have since moved to Tulsa, OK (a year earlier than planned) and opened up a 3,000sqft showroom and have continued to grow our online business. We have shipped product to happy customers coast to coast.

We now have some great Brands and great Companies we are working with & are excited about our future.

Philosophy:

This is probably where I should insert all of the over-used, cheesy taglines….oh wait, I am the cheesy salesman…okay, we are very passionate, our customer service is top notch, we ride what we sell.

Ah, screw that, can’t do it.

We know who we are and are confident you will enjoy your shopping experience with us. Come into the shop or hit us up online and you will get to know us. We look forward to working with you and joining in on your cycling Journey.

James - that isn't really the entire story. We were unable to do the repairs for free because you did not follow our recommendations for the wheel build.
We recommended 3-Cross lacing w/ straight gauge spokes & brass nipples based on your weight & riding style.
You really wanted the Double Butted spokes & alloy nipples, so we accommodated your wishes.
We are unable to do the repairs for free because of those reasons.
Sorry you feel you weren't taken care of....happy trails & best of luck to you
Thanks, 918XC

Had a wheel built. About 300 miles on it and spokes started breaking. They wanted to charge me $17.00 to replace the first spoke but after speaking with Ray it was repaired at no charge. Third ride after repair another spoke broke and again they wanted to charge me to repair it. They told me that it was not their fault and it was my weight and riding style that caused it to break. I've had wheels built by other bike shops in the Tulsa area and have yet to break a spoke on any of them. Although it does not matter to me any longer, XC needs to stand up and accept responsibility for their work. They've lost my business and I will pass on their work ethics to other riders.

Great shop. They have everything you need, or they can get it fast. Down to earth and love to share their passion.

Customer Service

Great guys, and very knowledgeable. They have hooked me up every time I have a small issue with my bike. I bought a Jet9 from them at their advise, and it was the best move I could have made. Ray Hall is a beast rider and shares his knowledge. 918XC is great for Tulsa and mountain biking. They did a great job putting on the Turkey Mountain XC race a couple weeks ago.

I'm in the market for a new bike, so I stopped by their shop to see what they have. I wasn't even acknowledged until much later, and there were 2 little kids riding bikes through the store and getting in the way and were never told to stop. Obviously they aren't too concerned with new customers, I won't be back and will continue to be a loyal customer of Tom's Bicycles and will be glad to give them my $3k for my new ride.

Oh, they also put on a cross country race event at Turkey Mountain in Tulsa a couple of weeks ago. To mark the course they used spray paint on rocks and trees. They even marked out permanent trail markers and replaced the marks with their own graffiti. The paint will be there for a long time and they don't seem to acknowledge requests to clean it up. In my opinion they are just arrogant people who believe even vandalism of our cities cross country trails to be ok as long as they do it. Don't shop there.

I haven't been to the shop in person. I ordered a '09 Redline Conquest Pro from their website. But they are great people, and treat their customers well.

Customer Service

Awesome Customer service. Before ordering I emailed them with questions about fitting, size, and what state of build the bike would come in. Scott R was answering and replying to my questions fairly late in the evening. They prebuilt the bike, and setup the fit based on measurements from my road bike. The bike arrived 85-90% build, but well packed and padded. The sizing and fit turned out great. Scott even followed up a few times after I got the bike.

The LBS redline dealer couldn't touch their price. I am a happy customer and would/will order from them again.

I do not have to go to the shop. I usually end up at Scott's house at some odd hour to pick up parts.

Customer Service

Unbeatable. As stated earlier, Scott makes himself available so I can get the parts I ordered. The most helpful part is that they ride and race the same trails I do, and they are always willing to talk bike setup or tire selection.

I have not been to the 918XC shop, but I contacted them based on an add placed on MTBR.com. The response was immediate, and followed up with a few phone calls to ensure everything was locked on. Scott R. provided great consultation on bike fit for my move to a 29er. We settled on a Jet 9 XL. It is the first bike I feel like I'm riding, instead of being on the verge of falling off of.

Customer Service

Scott R. provided great customer service and even upgraded the shipping at their expense when the bike didn't get packed up on time. What more could you ask for?

If you are thinking about moving to 29er, which you should, give these guys a call. For Niner bikes I don't think they can be beat.

Have not been to the shop in person as I completed my transaction online. They have been super with no complaints. They seem to have the personal aspect down and you feel like you are working with your local shop.

Customer Service

In a world where customer service is dead, Scott and Ray prove that incorrect. The contact has been the best I have seen and responses to questions are super fast, some even by phone if need be. I purchased a Ridley from them w/o sizing it and they nailed everything. The build was perfect and I am happy. I hardly had to adjust anything when I got it.

I can't recommend 918XC enough. They are spot on with the details, concerned about you and your purchase, experienced, and ride.
