Very nicely appointed, LARGE modern shop with a ton of bikes and gear. Bikes are all TREK, of course.

Customer Service

I've actually been there about 8 times, but I don't go back and here's why.

Last year I was in the market for a mountain bike. This was my first bike of any kind since I had been a kid. We had recently moved to Albuquerque and I discovered miles and miles of singletrack everywhere and thought this would be a fun hobby and a way to exercise and stay in shape. I started visiting all the bike shops I could find and picked the brains of staff and started doing test rides at a lot of them. I started out wanting a sub-$1K hardtail beginner's bike, but the more I test rode, the more I got hooked on a nicer bike and upped my budget to the $2-2.5K range. One of the bikes that I was interested in trying was the Gary Fisher Hi-Fi. I test-rode the Fisher Rumblefish and liked it. Also tried a couple of the Fuel models. The sales staff were all pretty helpful and informative as well as patient with a lot of newbie questions. When I asked about the HiFi, since there were none on the floor, I was told that the owner, who owns at least one other Trek "Superstore" in San Diego, doesn't and won't carry that model. Up until then Trek was probably the leading candidate for getting my paltry $2K, but this attitude really rubbed me the wrong way. I even called Trek headquarters to ask if a franchisee can limit a model's availability like this and at first I got some support from the customer service department at Trek. But a couple of hours later I received a call from Trek customer service saying that the owner was within his rights to sell whichever models he wanted to. I also got the impression that he was the OWNER and not a franchisee and sold enough Trek bikes so that he could do whatever he liked.

I guess I understand his point of view--the HiFi may not be a model that he wants to sell for whatever reason. But this attitude bothered me to the point where Trek was totally eliminated from my search. This is just my experience and the shop itself might provide great service to others.

I eventually ended up buying a Yeti ASR-5 and am really happy with that.
