The Shop is a little small compared to what I am used to. Then again my usual shop has been published in bicycling magazine. When you walk through the doors there are bikes to the left and right with a small but ok selection. There is gear hanging on walls and on displays as well.

Customer service was crap. Calvin I guess his name was or the owner was a real piece of work. I went in there to buy a tool to take my Freewheel off. I needed Park Tools Freewheel remover Tool # FR-1. so I go in there he asks what I need that for... I tell him what I need it for and he says bring the bike in and I'll do it. I tell him I am capable of doing it myself plus I don't feel like having to pay shop fees for something I can do. He wouldn't let it go. kept saying you can not return the tool if it doesn't work and blah blah blah. I was thinking for about ten minutes while I was being told i wasn't capable of doing a little wrenching on my own bike that he wasn't even going to sell me the tool. The guys at my local shop will sell me the tool show me how to do it and not make me feel like bikes are rocket science only for someone with a degree in fixing bikes. After all that bull I tell my folks about this deal and it turns out i'm related to the piece of garbage. Luck would have it.

well needless to say I will never go back. I grew up in Hibbing moved away and thought it was cool I had a shop to go to when I visited home. forget that idea.

This place is so bad I dont know where to start. Very bad attitudes by all the staff especially the owners. I plead with you not to give Jill or Calvin your money. I did and honestly, I almost feel violated. I gave Calvin a 5 for expertise because I honestly don't know what level of expertise he is. He could be a 10 and I wouldnt go here.

Great for the person who wants to throw all thier hard earned dollars away. Not so great if you are on a budget and need even the smallest amount of help or advise.

Wow, gotta say ratbag must have had closed eyes closed when he was in Bikes on Howard.
They carry a wide variety of bikes. Mountain, cruisers, comfort and plenty of others. If you don't see what you want, just ask!!
Last year i asked about a Surly Pugsley, and they were more than helpful!!! Dare I say above and beyond helpful!!
Calvin and Jill are more than willing to go out if their way for anyone!!
As far as service, I wouldn't take my bikes anywhere else!! Calvin knows his way around any and all bikes, and Jill is just as good out front!!
All and all I give this shop all my hard earned bike $$$$$!!!

I have a comment/question for the comment posted above. If you say you would never bring your bike back there , then why do you go back every couple months??

The shop mainly caters to entry level riders. Most of the bikes in the store are designed for the Mesabi Trail, not much for down hill or cross country.

The customer service is horrible. If you want to take lessons from someone on how not to run a bike shop go here. The owner's innability to communicate with people makes it hard for them to develop a great bike atmosphere like I have seen in a lot of other bike shops. Its apparent when you go to a bike shop and the owner stays open late to try and set you up and then even later to bull*#*# with you that they care about what they are doing. You would never get that at Bikes on Howard. It appears that making money is the only thing they care about.

I would not recommend going to this bike shop. Bikes on Howard is notorious for doing extra work and charging before consulting the customer when fixing bikes. Its just not a very welcoming atmosphere like a lot of the bike shops I have been in. I would never take my bike back to Bikes on Howard.
