The place seemed great the first time I visited; people were quite friendly, knowledgeable and most importantly helpful to my shopping needs. However as soon as I came back to complete my purchase and pick up the bike things turned sour, I felt extremely rushed out the door and little to no care was given to me regarding the bike/maintenance or anything else I wanted to purchase.

Very disappointed.

Customer Service

I was looking to buy a new bike to get back into biking after quite a few years and with little help picked out what fits me and laid down the deposit since they didn't have my size in stock.

2 weeks later I was back to pick up the bike, and was completely surprised and disappointed that I was rushed out the door, with the clerk just interested in completing the order and the payment.

I fully intended to buy some of the accessories I would need for the bike while I was there, but I was rushed back to pay for the bike not giving much chance to even check out the bike or anything else I would like to purchase. Really?

Turns out that by complimentary fitting they meant "adjusting the saddle height", which is all they did. Gee, thanks! I was given the manual and ushered out to try the bike, without so much as any explanation on proper maintenance, protections or anything else.

I see 0 added value to this kind of service, I might as well get my bike online. I will not be back.

I went in for a fitting, after speaking with a bunch of other DC area shops, none seemed very knowledgeable or interested in fitting a mountain bike, and none had any real experience with a SS 29er like I ride. Family Bike Shop was friendly, the fitting went great; Sarah the fit specialist listened to all of my questions, and was really knowledgeable about my type of riding and what I need to do. The other shop employees were super cool, SS riders and CXers, and of course were super friendly as well.

Customer Service

Excellent Customer service. They were perfectly happy to work with the stuff I brought and didn't instantly assume I wanted to buy a new bike.

This shop is great. FBS offers something to fit every cyclists taste. Be it road, cyclo,xc,dh,dirtjump, single speeds and fixies to your upright touring comfort bikes, they have it all. When I visited last they had in the neighborhood of 60 bikes built and on the sales floor available for immediate test rides and/or purchase.

They offer full service repairs from shock rebuilds to hand laced one off wheel building. Unlike most other area shops, the service rates are clearly posted above the pit area on neatly organized "menus"

Customer Service

I felt like I had walked in to a relatives home when I visited the shop for the first time. There were at least two different groups of customers in the shop yet Jonathan (owner) stopped his conversation to greet me as soon as I crossed the threshold. I can't tell you how many times I've been into a Bike Doctor without anyone even making eye contact with me, let alone greeting me in the midst of doing what seemed like 13 other things at once. The bottom line here is that at Family Bike shop you really are treated like family. It's good vibes at all times, the live XM radio feed and flat screen tv playing loops of all types of riding definitely doesn't damage the atmosphere either.

If you want it, need it fixed, or are just looking for sound unbiased opinions stop through. It's overly clear that these guys aren't in business to make a quick buck of you and snub you for the next paying customer. Props to Jonathan and the rest of the staff at Family Bike Shop.
