I absolutely loved this shop. I do not "look" like a cyclist so I was becoming use to being ignored when I entered shops looking for my bike. This was not my experience at College Park cycle. There is a hill and flat area near the store that provides different "terrains" to try. Charles even said that if I determined which bike I wanted he would try to obtain one for me.

Customer Service

I received a lot of help from the owner Charles and some other associates the two times I visited the shop. Their customer service was excellent even though there were other people in the store at the time. As a novice rider I loved the fact that I could bring my bike back there for tunes ups and any addtional assitance that I need with my bike over time.

The shop has a good selection of bikes, and some good mechanics, but is probably the least friendly shop I've visited, anywhere. The staff seems to have a "take or leave it" attitude. Some of the employees are rude, in addition to being unhelpful. Thankfully, there are other shops nearby. I've spent over $3000 at College Park bikes over the last year or two, but will be spending my bicycle bucks elsewhere in the future.

Customer Service

Crappy. Rude.

Mechanics appear to be well trained and helpful. Decent selection of bikes, but call first.

I went to this shop for something very specific -- to get a faulty Yakima roof rack replaced, so I can't to their bike knowledge, but I can tell you their customer service skills SUCK. And they have way too much attitude considering.

Customer Service

Without going into too much detail, I'll say that after waiting a few weeks for the replacement rack to come in, I was so angry and frustrated at dealing with both the owners that I ended up leaving the rack there and calling Yakima to have a part sent directly to me instead. I was resigned to never having to lay eyes on these tools again.

Don't go there. Go to Proteus, Bicycle Place, City, any other number of good shops.

Won't be back!

Customer Service

I've never met a bike shop that has ADD until now. After "appraising" my bike (telling me it was garbage) they made me wait an hour just to tell me how much they would give me for it on trade in against another used bike.

Similar Products Used:

The used bike was USED and not new like the owner told me... and when he gave me the price it was 200$ more than the sticker on the bike. If the owner has been doing this for almost 40 years then he has become complacent and unenthusiastic about bicycles. From watching him deal with other customers as well as me, it seems his only goal is to tear down anything you think you might know about bikes to somehow make him seem to be the expert on everything. Even at the risk of running you off and losing your business.

This shop is owned by the same folks who own Mt. Airy Bicycles. The College Park shop has a ton of vintage/high-end road frames, including a lot of old-school steel frames, and some unusual brands like Rivendell. Big brands are Specialized and Trek. Because it is located next to the University of Maryland, they have and sell a ton of bikes suitable for the college bike-around-campus crowd, but they have a lot of performance machines, too. Very large in-store selection. Does not carry as many really high-end mountain bikes compared to, for example, Germantown Cycles.

Customer Service

My experience has ranged from very, very good (quick special orders, very good discounts, great repairs) to mixed (mechanics who didn't really seem to care and/or know what they were doing). If you get the right salesperson or mechanic, you'll be fine. Otherwise, you might figure that you'd be better off doing it yourself.

Similar Products Used:

Generally a very good shop, and sort of like walking into a museum if you look at the rafters where the old frames are hung. Definitely a huge step up from your average neighborhood bike shop.
