George's Front Street - Bikeshops, Boise, Idaho

George's Front Street - Bikeshops, Boise, Idaho

DESCRIPTION

Possible the largest selection of bikes in Idaho with a big pro-level offering...and a big pro level attitude. The only shop I can think of with more of attitude is Durance Cycles in Sun Valley. Two words: Richard Feldman. Anyway....

Many of the fastest racers hang out here/work at George's/belong on their team. I find their employees either very helpful (usually the women) or full of themselves (the guys with goatees and wool socks in the back). I only go here if I am desperate for something (their prices are sometimes OVER retail but for the most part are smack dab msrp) and can't make it to one of the other shops; last visit had me returning to return a part that was the wrong size even though the guy (same guy who overcharged me...front counter guy said "whoa that is too much for this part) promised me it would fit. Nope.

Admittedly this shop wins "Boise's Best" most of the time. I think it's for their selection; it's darn good! But I don't know if it's ballot stuffing or if their dedicated customers have a lot of time to tell others to vote but in the big picture I think George's is a lot of attitude and not a lot of substance: guess they're the most "corporate" of the bike shops in Boise.

Moderate selection. Mostly Specialized, some Santa Cruz & others.

Customer Service

Not good. I will not return. Overpriced and bad advice.

With all of the other great shops in town I would recommend skipping this one.

The shop has gone through a rennovation of sorts in the winter of 2012, opening it up and giving more space for a larger assortment of goods. However, they now only carry Specialized with a few Cervelo, Colnago and Santa Cruz. They also carry Electra as well as SE Bikes. As far as equipment and apparel selection they have Castelli, Club Ride, Fox, Pearl Izumi, Specialized, and Twin Six among a few other brands. Shoe and helmet selection is limited to Specialized and Giro, with one or tow Fizik shoe models as well as Catlike helmets.

Customer Service

Customer service is ok, not bad but not great. Some of the staff know their stuff, but it seems they are mostly undertrained/ placing warm bodies on their sales floor. The shop isn't very friendly, and although they are knowledgable most of the mechanics while nice could use a reminder to clean up their language when in ear shot of the customers. There are obvious signs of disorganization as it usually takes asking two people to get the right answer- again, more training may help here.

Overall this shop would be better if they were more organized. The fact that the shop is the largest (sqaure footage) in Boise has to be the biggest reason it is successful. It's involvement/monopoly on the local road racing scene definitely helps it.

Mainly a roadbike shop for elitist roadbike snobs. They carry MTB, but clearly only because they have to in this area of Boise.

Customer Service

Poor. Lack of knowledge, about mountainbikes combined with a poor, condescending attitude towards the mountainbike lifestyle makes this a very poor choice for any serious mountainbiker looking to purchase a new bike or worse yet, have their bike worked on. If you want the best service in Boise try Joyride Bikes or Ken's.

Again, unless you are a roadie stay clear of this shop. My overall dealings with this place have been bad. Not compleatly truthful, combined with the attitude makes this one shop all mountainbikers should stay clear from. You have been warned.

Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and honest sales staff. The service/repair guys have a bit of attitude but they are usually crazy busy so I guess I don't blame them and they do seem to know their stuff. Great selection and nice store.

Customer Service

Great!

I went in to just browse for clothing 3 weeks after buying a new bike and 2 of the sales guys remembered what I had bought. I find that impressive especially since my bike is mid-priced, not something really expensive that might be more memorable.

Went to George's twice over the past 10 days or so, spent about 1/2 hour the first time (Front Street Location) with nobody seeming to have time to assist me. Went back a week later (State Street Location), and same story (we were the only customers in the shop...if at least one of three employees can't offer to assist you b/c they are too busy talking with each other at the register, I figure that reflects on the service of the shop). Even my kids noticed and wanted to know why nobody was helping us. Needless to say, I decided to take my business elsewhere (Idaho Mountain Touring). I was disappointed George's didn't offer better customer service as they do appear to have the largest selection of bikes and gear and also several locations to choose from.

Customer Service

Bugger

Georges is the biggest of the shops in the Boise area and very professional. Jason at the Front street store is the best, and Mike (one of the owners) is super cool and super friendly. They will service any make, and can do just about anything, from tuning a top notch roadbike, to servicing the pivots on a Turner, to setting up a freeride drivetrain, to overhauling sealed bearings pivots on any bike that uses them. I have never, ever had a problem with the quality of their work. YOu can trust them.

Customer Service

Excellent, A+

Very professional. When you walk in there you don't have to deal with any cult, clique BS, it's all professional. Also Mike Cooley (owner) has don TONS for cycling in the Treasure Valley.

WTF's with their "tudes anyway? if i were a "tech." (and in their case, i use the term very loosely) there I'd be ashamed to not know any more about Campagnolo components than they do. Or they could at least not treat me w. the contempt they do just cause I choose to use something other than their Shimano CRAP!

Customer Service

would have to agree w. other reviewer. while they may have idaho's best selection of cycling stuff it odesn't make up for the 'tudes. it's like if you don't spend $10.000.00/ wk , "sorry we don't have time for you" so far i'm really soured on the corp. mentality. thus i'm goin to Hyde Park Cycle / Sport. Jim and Erin at least treat me as a customer not a maxxed out Master Card.
