Mike's Bikes of Sacramento - Bikeshops, Sacramento, California

Mike's Bikes of Sacramento - Bikeshops, Sacramento, California

DESCRIPTION

Mike's Bikes was founded in 1964 as one of Marin County's very first Schwinn shops. It is rumored that our store in San Rafael was home to some of the first mountain bikes in the country. Cycling has changed dramatically over these past 42 years, but Mike's Bikes has never wavered from our total dedication to the sport.

Today, Mike's Bikes is part of a growing family of local bike shops, all with a singular purpose - to get as many lucky Bay Area people on bikes as possible. We locally own and operate six wildly successful stores in San Rafael, Sausalito, San Francisco, Berkeley, Palo Alto and our newest store in downtown Sacramento! Our professional staff of over 100 local cyclists will ensure that your experiences both in the store and on your bike are the best they can be.

Why shop with us? Because we know bikes and we care. We don't sell snowboards, we don't sell kayaks and we don't sell tents. We only sell bikes - you might even say bikes are our life. Why does that matter? Because this utter fanaticism for our product makes us the best at what we do - We live to create cyclists.

Lots of bikes in the shop: road, mountain and everything in between. The staff seems to be indifferent there.

Customer Service

Have bought/been with someone buying an entry level bike 3 times there. The sales staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the low end bikes, but never offered anything I hadn't already heard about buying a first bike.

The mechanics that work there are... so-so. I took my bike (a beginner specialized that I bought there) in for an "emergency" spoke replacement and they finished it in 4 hours without an appointment. They also charged me $31 for it... I could have done it myself for 75 cents. The guy gave me a hard time about not tuning up my bike regularly (!!) and I left with a bitter taste in my mouth only to find out when I got on the trail that he had tuned up the whole bike for free. (Including pulling my wax chain lube off and putting the traditional oil on).

Most of the bikes are sold at MSRP here. When they do their sale weekend deals they are about the same as everywhere else's normal prices.

Overall a good place to shop, if you know what you want

Sold a bike with the wrong stem that was spec'd on the website. They gave me a bogus excuse why, and wouldn't swap it for the correct one. When I went to another shop to order the correct piece, they told me bike shops do this all the time and they should've swapped it for the correct one.

Basically before leaving the shop with bike, inspect it thoroughly to verify the correct parts are on the bike.

Clean, lots of bikes and accessories

Customer Service

Horrible customer service. They switched different sales people on me while I was there and I didn't understand why. I had many questions to ask even though I already made up my mind what bike I was going to buy from doing research on the net but the sales guy was a smart ass. I think the fool thought I couldn't afford the bike or something. This incident happen a few months ago and just to let you know "Mike's Bikes" I bought a bike somewhere else the same day and I recently have sponsers and I don't have to deal with you type of fools anytime soon. Train your staff on customer service and don't judge a book by its cover. Good luck!

Nice big shop, lots of inventory. For bikes they have a wide selection with most sizes in stock. I've bought two kids bikes here, both on sale. I would buy another bike and accessories here again. Their sales are the time to shop there. It seems like they show the MSPR and then show the mark down price, when in fact the mark down price is close to the MSRP. Pretty typical for sporting goods stores.

Customer Service

I work on my own bikes mostly, they rebuilt my fox front fork, while the mechanic installed the parts correctly he put 145 psi in it, WTF? I'm 185 and I run 75 psi. He clearly didn't know anything about pressures in one of the most common suspension forks around.

Otherwise their customer service is above average in my opinion, they took care of a cannondale warranty for me with no charge even though I didn't buy that bike there.

I will NEVER use a mike's bikes location again. In a recent trip to the sacramento store to pick up a wheel which was repaired for me; the service associate, ignored me for almost 5 minutes. In this time he made eye contact with me multiple times. I was tempted to ask "how long are you going to ignore me?". Then, when someone he knew walked up behind me, AFTER me, he proceeded to talk to them about every day BS. I had to walk back to the front counter to get another person to pull my wheel down. I had to tell this associate that Yes, there was someone back there but he was choosing to ignore me instead of help me. When I did finally get my wheel, the service associate looked at me and said "sorry, it's been busy." Obviously not too busy to talk to his buddy.

Mike's Bikes should realize that they NEED customers to run a business; and customers sure as hell aren't going to come back or recommend your shop when they are treated so poorly. From now on I will make sure to use another bicycle store as Mike's Bikes obviously doesn't give a damn about their customer base. I have removed myself from their newsletters and obviously decided to buy my new bicycle at another shop. Way to run a business.

I test rode a few bikes here, They had some nice salespeople (ie cuties). I tried to get a swingarm for my rocky mountain and they jacked the price to 350$ when I knew that other bike shop river rat (another awful shop) was asking 130$. This hurt my feelings. I was a new customer and ready to get a new bike anyway, and this is how they treat me? I might have shelled out the cash if I hadn't known better. I tried to negotiate and they came down a whopping 50$. Over 200 in profit on a part thats not inventoried and is readily available? Not fair. they have nice shop, lots of pretty bikes, but I noticed everything was 20% high. xtr brake pads 15.99$ anywhere else they sell for 9.99$ Just seemed like they cater to the yuppie set and not your average joe rider.

They are cool. I am doing an Ebaytastic build up and went in to talk with the shop guys about how much a build would cost. They were friendly and very helpful. They also said they could price match JensonUSA, pretty cool for an LBS if you ask me.

Customer Service

Great in my opinion!

Terrible, terrible service. There super nice to you before you buy. But once they get there money from you. They could care less about customer service. The service deptartment does,nt know what there doing. Everytime I take my bike into the service dept. they screw up something. They tell you things that are wrong with your bike when theres nothing wrong with your bike. Trying to sell you things you don't need. The manager is a complete idiot. STAY AWAY. Theres way to much competition to ever use this shop.

Customer Service

There out to screw you.
