Strength:

I approached them to direct me to obtain a used bike for a young Syrian girl whose family is supported by our Church only to find that Mike, the manager had generously offered a bike in exceptional condition to us..I picked up the bike a few days later when it was serviced and the salesperson and Mike were both pleasant and congenial.A big thanks to Gears Bike Shop and Mike Based on my positive experience ,I’m very surprised to read the negative employee reviews which suggest employer incompetence and poor employee -employer relations and understanding Hopefully this retailer is working to correct this situation

Weakness:

Again ,Miriam and her Mom and Dsd thank you

Similar Products Used: We are disappointed with Gears bike shop on their support to our Bionix bikes. After 2 weeks of waiting, going back and forth to their shop located at Mississauga, trying to catch their only technician who knows Bionix, we received no support to repair our E-bikes. Finally we ourselves used the instruction Bionix provided to Gears and fixed the problem ourselves. I think Gears shoulTd stop selling Bionix bikes when they can't provide a good support! The Gears feedback was replace $3000 system with a new one or ship the whole bike to Bionix; both solutions would have costs fortune! The problem was just replacing a 30 amps fuse burned inside the battery! Luckily we didn't scrap the bikes or bought a new $700 battery!! We were also disappointed with poor customer relationship provided by Gears dealing with our problem.

Great looking shop with tons of choices and products.

Customer Service

While the staff are friendly and quite helpful, the owner is the complete opposite. I find her to be quite rude, impatient and discourteous to say the very least. She has zero customer service and only makes time for her 'elite' clientele. When I brought my bike in for a service, I made inquiries about a certain part and was shocked when she said, "well its a department store bike; what do you expect?" I was appalled and hurt. This year however, I will cease to exist as a customer here. It's a shame because this store is the closest LBS to my home. Unfortunately, this store will continue to exist through the deep pockets of their elite clientele while regular people like myself look elsewhere for some decent and friendly service. I will travel 25 km down to Toronto and give my business to the new Giant concept store on Queen St. W. where, I'm proud to say, I've just bought my brand new 2014 Giant Trance 2 27.5! And I got a superb deal while these idiots refused to do anything for me when I inquired about the exact same bike.

Just wanted to write an honest review of my first experience at Gears Bike Shop, Mississauga .I bought my first road bike and it was ALMOST a full 5 star positive experience, but can't give a full 5 star rating due to one small reason that left a big impact.
I am new to road racing and although i know some elite racers who all had opinions on which shop to visit (Bike Zone, Racer Sportif, D'Ornellas Bike shop, Duke's and a few others) i decided to give Gears a try. Mainly because we frequent the area where Gears is located in the spring/summer months (supporting local business) and because i liked the history of this bike store.
Mika took me around to see the road bikes and she was very knowledgeable and patient with my questions. I came well researched beforehand, but she solidified what i had learned and provided me with more knowledge to help me make an informed decision. After trying a few bike frames and discussing specs, i found a Cannondale that was perfect. It was a 2013 model and at the time they had a discount of 10% off their 2014's and 20% off their 2013's. She had told me the bike was priced at $1500 and it would not be further reduced (i asked but was refused and that was not a problem).
I returned to Gears and after some time picking out other accessories i was ready to make my purchase. The price that Mika had told me was off from the price on the computer- there was no tag on the bike. Well, that is where my experience went sour. I understood the frustration of the owner (Ira) that Mika had mistakenly told me the price was $1500 instead of $1600, but i did not expect a scene that tainted my first bike purchase. Ira hastily suggested i purchase another bike that i had not even tried and that she would not honour what Mika told us and walked to a room behind the register. As we were leaving, she did come back out and say we could have the bike for $1500, but it was not warm at all! We quickly paid and left. Luckily on the day of my fitting, Scott an the rest of the guys made it a great ending experience! I would like to thank Mika, Scott and the whole gang of guys for giving me a better lasting impression- and to Maggie/Jake the store dogs for keeping my 4yr old entertained for the hours i spent at the store. Ira does seem nice too, i just thought a bit harsh for a $100 mistake- an off day?

Customer Service

Customer Service was amazing.
Mika, you can tell you are passionate about what you do. You can sell a bike to anyone and you were the reason i came back to purchase at Gears.

Scott- Thanks for a great bike fitting and taking the time to getting a good fit for a petite rider like me. My hubby thanks you for braving the cold to help him install the bike hitch. We thought we would be spending the night at your store if you did not go out to lend a hand to get my bike on the rack.

The guys at the back- sorry i did not get your names, but i am sure i will get to know you all. My daughter gives you all a thumbs up. I know you all got a kick out of her "I am not tired, just bored" line as she waited 'patiently' for me to pick my bike.

Ira- You own an amazing shop with awesome employees who seem to enjoy what they do...you don't see that unless there is awesome leadership. You were kind to my daughter- turning the t.v on a kids channel, letting her walk around the register area and talking to her. I wish the last impression was better, but i am sure there will be no hard feelings when we see each other again. Almost a 5 star rating and happy to recommend Gears.

Good selection of road bikes (Specialized and Cannondale) and accessories (mainly Specialized). Store is well organized, clean and seems well stocked- if they can't find something at their location they can check the other locations and have it brought to their store.
Great location- perfect to take your bike for a spin after a purchase.

This place is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!

They screwed up my bike and would not take any responsibility. Called me a liar and said they didnt do it. Service staff didnt do anything i asked them to, and gave me back my bike saying everything was fixed and would not refund the service charges.

Very arrogant people.

My favourite shop! I've been in and out of the Gears Port Credit shop for a few years (Scott did a Fit for me a few years back), so when it was time for a new ride I knew where to go. Scott was great in explaining the finer details about the two bikes I was considering, and when I came in for a test ride (on a 35 C day no less) the staff was equally great – when I went out for the second test ride my water bottle had already been refilled with nice cold water.

I went to no less than 5 other shops before coming back to Port Credit, and I'll keep coming back – you guys make it easy. Believe it not one shop even told me I could only take my "test ride" in the parking lot. They told me they did not want their bikes to get dirty...

The other guys sell bikes, Gears is a "bike shop"…

Love the layout of the new Oakville store. It's great because I live in Milton so it's so much closer and more convenient than the Mississauga location.

Customer Service

I was a long time owner of a tri bike and decided I wanted to go to a road bike. I had a specific budget that I wanted to keep and a certain level of bike I wanted purchase. I went to about 6 different bike shops and the only one I felt comfortable with making a purchase with was Gears! I felt like the other shops were only out to get a sale out of me whether the bike fit me or not. I was told I was a 52" and one of the stores tried to convince me that I was ok on a 54" and they were rude to my 2 year old son. Not Gears though, they played with my son while I was getting help finding a bike. I told them what I wanted and then what I needed and got 150% back from them. They made sure the bike fit all my criteria and then some. I would recommend there bikes and especially their service to anyone who asked. I have not one complaint except that I should have just went their in the first place and not wasted my time at the other shops!

This place is terrible. They are interested in nothing but making money. I bought my first bike from them, when i was still learning about bikes.

My initial disgust with them was in how they treat people. They were impatient pushy and curt. They didn't have much time to give. They barely answer questions. They pressure you by saying that they run out of bikes early in the season, so you better hurry up and buy. That should have been enough to make me go somewhere else.

I bought a bike (about $2000). Once the money was paid, they made it impossible for me to schedule a pick-up and fitting. They said i would have to come mon-wed 10:00-12:00 or 2:00-4:00. (I would had have to book a day off work to get there in that time frame. They didn't care.) They said "the other times are their busy times and i couldn't pick up my bike then." In other words, they already have my money (which they are happy to take at any time of day) and they want to make it easy for people who haven't bought yet to buy. Once you buy, they don't give a crap about you, so don't expect anything.

Now that i have had the bike for a little bit and know more about bikes, there advice is awful. They have good products, but they could not care lees if it is the right fit for you or if it is the right combination. They probably just want to get old or overstocked porduct sold. They sold my a race bike that is one or two sizes too small for me, with tires that are way too thick (decreased performance and trouble getting them on/off), and mountain bike shoes.

DO NOT BUY THERE!!!!! They care only for money. They have no regard for customers. And beware more novice buyers, because they will sell you a product that is all wrong for you.
